Very tired appartment. No lift and narrow steps.

Key collection and irresponsible and careless host, who didn’t meet my special request even though he confirmed he will. Key collection is very complicated, you have to go with all your luggage about 400m from the apartment to give a code to a pharmacy guy and collect the keys. In our case it was even worse as it appeared that the key wasn’t there - the host obviously doesn’t check if the keys are left or not. So we had to contact the host, go back to the apartment location, look behind a pipe for a hidden box and collect the keys from there, which in the middle of the night after a long flight wasn’t nice at all. Then in the apartment there was another unpleasant surprise. During booking the apartment I made a special request to the host that even though we are two people we need both bed and sofa bed, which he confirmed and that’s the reason I have booked it. At the day of arrival I have reminded him that we need two beds, he confirmed again. However only the bed was prepared and there were not even extra linens. The host declined to fix this the same night so we didn’t sleep at all. After multiple text messages we’ve got the extra linens thrown in front of the door only next day 2pm, so one of four nights and days were totally spoiled due to total carelessness and irresponsibility of the host who only offered his apologies and was arrogant enough to say that we didn’t have reason to complain as we were two people and we had a double bed. The apartment itself was not quite good, not well maintained old and shabby furniture. No soap in the bathroom, a small piece of toilet paper. No flexibility for early check in and late check out. Check in is after 5pm and check out 11am. There is no even place where you can leave your luggage. Not sure what takes them that long to clean and prepare such small apartment. He could at least offer us late check out for compensation, instead he sent a message asking if we could even leave before 11am.

A great El Sol/Plaza Mayor/Opera location toward the quieter Asturias side. Close to public transport, sights, food and bars.  Very, very,  clean; and surprisingly quiet with the balcony door closed. The balcony will accommodate maybe one standee, since you will share it with the AC compressor. The WiFi was good and the clothes washing machine was useful on a two week trip. Can one be too centraly located?  Maybe.  You open the building's front door and force your way into the pedestrian hordes on the Calle Mayor sidewalk, but this happens only during peak times.  Exterior picture of buliding/balcony, if it attaches. Kitchen was good.  Had several  kitchen appliances and dish soap, but no dish drying towels, or dish drying rack. Nor salt, tea, coffee, sugar, ect. for that first morning.  The kitchen had a pristine, unused look.  Perhaps it is  "why cook? place."  Eat tapas at the many restaurants just steps away . See if kitchen pictures load up. 

I got used to it by the third night, but the bed was a bit uncomfortable. Unit had none of  the little amenities you normally find in these apartment rentals. No hand soap, only the very large bottles of inexpensive body soap and shampoo in the shower.  Did have better quality bath towels.  Shower picture if it loads up. Access to the unit is such that both travelers have to go and come together, or one stays and lets the other in, or make plans to meet elsewhere and together gain access. Awkward, if you want to split up and return at different times. Using the unit's key lock box, a second building front door key would solve this. The earliest unit check in time was a (strict?) latish  5 pm.  Often have been offered a mid afternoon check in time. Check out was the usual 11 am. The unit is very functional, but no special touches/amenities.  For me, the location doesn't completely offset some of its shortcomings; but its good location may be of paramount importance for many.  Please be fair and don't complain about the 54 steps to reach the unit. Travelers have been well forewarned in the unit's description and in many other reviews.

I really liked the location and the view from the balcony! And the whole flat is in a very authentic style! I liked it! In general, you have everything you need. I stayed for 2 nights only, so I did not use the kitchen for cooking. But it was good that you can use washing machine to clean some clothes. And you have all you need if you want to cook by yourself. Perfect location close to the Opera metro station and the main city center. Great place for its price! I recommend it for solo travelers or a couple.

As was mentioned by the previous visitors, the corridor to the flat is very narrow, and you need to take your (sometimes heavy) bags to the 3rd floor via this narrow space. But I understand that the host can't change it. However, when I got to the 3rd floor late in the evening, there was no light, so I needed to light up the corridor with my phone to enter the lock code and get a key. This moment with the light you can improve. It would be great to have an additional small shelf/hooks in the bathroom closer to/near the shower because you do not have where to put your shower products/hang your towel... The same with the trash can for toilet paper (when you're a girl, you have period days, and you can't throw the pads in the toilet, you need to throw it away in the trash can, it's inconvenient to have a trash can only in the kitchen) And when you check out, you need to take away rubbish with you... it's also inconvenient when you're with your heavy bags. And it was not clear where to leave it. I hope, I left it in the right place (first floor, the trash can in the closet) But these small moments disappear and do not play a big role in comparison with the amazing location!

The apartment was in a perfect location! Steps from the center of major sights in Madrid and easy to walk almost anywhere. Cafes at every turn, right out the door. It was very clean with a comfortable bed and good shower.

It’s a third floor walk up, which didn’t bother us at all but could be difficult for someone with mobility challenges.

The location is great! The apartment is spacious and clean! I liked that all the appliances were provided, even washing powder for washing machine.

The furniture is not new, a leg of small sofa table is broken, the armchair leg is also broken. I believe a big mirror would be nice as well
