"Wonderful family experience on a working dairy farm"

9.0

We had an amazing stay here with our four children (aged 8–13) on this family-run dairy farm. As a Dutch city family, we really wanted our kids to experience farm life and understand where milk actually comes from and this exceeded all our expectations. Farmer James and his wonderful son Alexander took the time to show us everything and explain so much about the cows and sheep and farm-life. From meeting the newborn calves and lambs to seeing the milking, our kids bottle feeding the calves, and even petting Daisy the cow, it was such a special, hands-on experience. Every day, the cows would run past our window as they were moved between stables, which the kids absolutely loved. It was not only fascinating but also gave us a deep respect for farmers and the hard work they do in all weather, with such genuine care for their animals. Judith, the lovely host, made us feel so so welcome. She is so kind! It was such a thoughtful touch that essentials like milk and butter were already there for us on arrival, and the kids adored the lamb-themed duvets. The beds were very comfortable, the shower was great, and the fireplace made everything feel extra cosy and warm. We would absolutely recommend this place to other families with children, it’s a truly memorable and meaningful experience.

Of course you’ll hear cows mooing from early morning until evening and tractors going about their work—but that’s all part of the authentic farm experience. For us, it actually deepened our respect for how long and hard farmers work, in all kinds of weather. We slept perfectly fine, as the sounds became more like a comforting background noise. And yes, there can be a typical farm smell at times, but we saw this as part of the full experience of real farm life rather than something negative. Just sniff 3 times deeply and you won’t smell it anymore, haha!

"It was a very enjoyable night that added variety to our lodging experiences."

8.0

It is a farm with moooing cows, even at night. And that was something we really liked! Tending to the iron fireplace was also a great experience for us as we never need or use one where we are from. Our host was so kind and accommodating, giving us a short tour of his barn the dairy cows he had. Awesome experience. Btw, the accommodation is actually a trailer van, which was also a new experience for us.

There’s some need to clean up the place a bit. We saw moldy dish sponges and unswept children’s lollipop wrappers when we walked in. Also, given the distance to the nearest convenience store, it would help to have basic items like coffee, milk and condiments available for guests. Although We understand these are to be personally provided by guests. Just saying.

The host was responsive

The place listed is not really how it is. It needs to work for guest. It's not clean enough, the kitchen needs cleaning. There are things left in the cupboards that should not be there. Bedrooms are not great either, toilet seat falling off in theback bedroom. A pile of bedlinen all thrown into one of the cupboards, no order whatsoever. The place was cold, it took ages to heat up. The living room has a wood burner but when it goes out it's freezing. The hot water wouldn't heat up so I had to contact the host. They were responsive but they were unable to fix it. I asked for a full refund, which I have received. This was not a great visit for us as my brother had died and were attending his funeral. We needed comfort and unfortunately this place did not do that. I don't want to be rude to the owner but my advice would be get the place cleaned, get rid of all unnecessary things in there and it would work.
