We enjoyed our stay in this three-bedroom, one-bath apartment, which was clean and well located in this popular tourist town. A washing machine in the unit was much appreciated, and the rooftop deck was a highlight—offering comfortable seating, beautiful sunset views, and a drying rack for laundry. A fun surprise was the lively nightlife on the main street, as well as the apartment’s proximity to the famous Bambalouni. Just uphill is Bambalouni Sidi Bou Saïd, a beloved spot that has been serving traditional hot, sugary Tunisian doughnuts since 1932—perfect with coffee or tea and a must-try while visiting. First impressions can be a bit off-putting. Access to the apartment requires walking up a small side street off the main road, which during our stay was littered with trash and food scraps. We were told this is an ongoing issue caused by residents leaving bagged trash outside and stray dogs tearing into it. While unpleasant, once inside the apartment the experience was much better. Overall, a good stay with great location highlights, especially for if you comfortable with apartment-style accommodations and a bit of local grit.

Guests who frequently rent apartments should note that the unit is fairly minimally stocked. The kitchen had basic dishes, pots, pans, and one bottle of water. The toaster and hair dryer were broken upon arrival, but both were promptly replaced. If you plan to cook, there is a grocery store down the hill where you can purchase essentials (hopefully the salt we bought is still there for future breakfast-makers!). We would have appreciated having more towels provided. Also note that vehicle access is limited—our driver dropped us off and picked us up down the hill, so be prepared to carry luggage up the hill for about four blocks.
