Stay @ The Wellington, Burton On Trent

Nothing to like.

Disapointing facilities. No- smoking signs everywhere but heavy cigarette smoke smell throughout the building. Parking was not always available around the building as first come available slots only. The kettle in the bedroom had bad limescale in it. Could not make drinks in the bedroom as advertised on the website. When I sent the host a message, they told me to use the kettle in the communal kitchen. You pay for comfort and facilities available in the bedroom, which was not the case. Windows had some sticky stuff on it instead of blinds. Some windows don't open at all. Old worn mattress on bed. Street lighting disturbs sleep as there's no curtains on the windows to block it. Room smelled stale. Dirty marks on the carpet in front of the bed. All the pictures shown on the site were not like it in real life.

There was quite a lot of road noise in the room, but the host provided ear plugs which worked well. The fire alarm went off repeatedly during the morning before we left, and we had to use ear plugs then too. Good communication from the host about that and they arranged for an engineer to attend, but we had to leave so do not know the outcome

Less road noise. And a fire alarm going off is far from relaxing. Luckily it didn’t wake us up as we were awake already, but I was in the shower at the time and we were worried at first that it might really have been a fire, not just a fault. It spoilt our enjoyment of the property somewhat

Really cosy, practical, beautifully laid out, everything you need .

Had tea and coffee in the room and was clean

I was facing the road so at time it would be noisy, but I prefer traffic noise to rude neighbours. Room was quiet, but I think there was some work done due to drill noises. Well, maintenance is important, so no problem. Again, I prefer these noises to rude people. Room was clean and the bed was confortable, ensuite was okay. I loved the tea and the fact that the kettle was there. I didn't use any communal spaces, so I can't say anything about them. I would be back in th future.

Here’s the good part. The emails were clear and plentiful and the access instructions were clear. The room was large and had a comfortable bed with towels for the shower etc.

The noise in Room 1 from the road was ridiculous. I should have known with ear plugs in the room, and even with the roadworks outside that reduced the traffic, the noise from lorries thundering past all night long was dreadful. I woke at 3.40 a.m and did not sleep any further as the road noise never stopped. It’s outrageous that you think this is an acceptable room wth that noise and lack of noise reductions. Secondly the shower room was clearly for a disabled person which I am not and whilst the was usable, the mould on the shower was less than attractive. The shared kitchen was gruesome - see picture, food lying around, milk in the fridge from 12/4, clothes lying around on an ironing board and the oven (which I tried to use for breakfast was disgusting - see photo). All in this was a most unpleasant experience and I’d never come back to Burton to stay here again,
