Lovesick Hostel & Bar Mpai Bay

The hostel was amazing!! It is newly renovated & the owners Lauren & Hans have done an incredible job with the place! It is very clean & has a large social area with bar, pool table & sofa area to relax making it very easy to socialise & meet new people. The hostel is in the perfect location right on the beach! There is also a plankton beach a short walk from the hostel which was incredible at night & the hostel is very close by to delicious restaurants. 100% recommend Love Sick hostel if you’re staying in M’Pai bay!

Lovesick is an amazing unique hostel, with young owners that are super friendly and want you to have a good time while you stay there. They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and that you enjoy your time in Mpai Bay. They recommend events at different venues in the village, and also don’t mind having a party occasionally at the hostel. There is also a boat party/ trip to other beaches and a lighthouse visit. You can’t beat it for only $10! It’s got lovely vibes and it’s great for socialising with the chill area and pool table. The location is perfect, you’re on the beach and 2 minutes away from the main high street. If you’re lucky the plankton at night time can be seen really well at the beach that’s a 5 minute walk from the hostel. The hostel is nearly brand new so everything was clean, and the volunteers & staff do their very best for the guests. You should definitely stay here in Mpai Bay!

Had the most amazing time here. It was great for meeting people and socialising, with an amazing bar with pool table and sports. The owners were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. And the location was amazing, with great views and beach. And for the money you pay, it’s absolutely incredible value. Can’t wait to come back!

Music going on till 4am on a random Monday with no pre-warning to any of the guests sleeping upstairs. Ear plugs made no difference. When we asked to turn the music down we were told it was a party hostel by the owner, although this is not mentioned on booking.com. No soundproofing between rooms - can hear every noise from neighbours room and the bathroom.

This hostel is just a few weeks old, so I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since the owners were initially nice. That was until I was woken up at 3AM to some people turning on their sound system full blast and being insanely loud for over an hour. Everyone walked out of their private rooms and were absolutely shocked what was happening. I put on my noise cancelling earphones and played some white noise full blast but could still hear them through the thin walls. Never have I ever experienced something this blatant in over 30 countries of travelling. For those that want to party, sure this place could be for you. But for those that actually seek relaxation, I'd truly avoid this place. Also, there never was anyone at reception and I understand they just opened, but the whole thing seemed disorganized. I'm sure their hostel will become better, such as more chill areas, but honestly there seemed to be a lot better places on my walk through town with a much better atmosphere. I wish I stayed elsewhere - perhaps I would have actually gotten a night's sleep.
