"Disappointing"

4.0

The location is perfect 5 mins stroll to market place. Whilst there are a lot of negatives, the bedding & towels were very clean, probably brand new. It looks like it's in the process of being updated. However, it takes more than a feature fireplace & roll top bath to make it a good holiday let.

You enter directly into the living room, and it is very dark. The carpet is fraying, and worst of all, there is an OVERWHELMING smell of bleach. It's obviously trying to hide a bad smell, but it was so strong you could hardly breathe. The windows are filthy. The blinds are dirty it just feels very scruffy. There are cobwebs all over the house, and the kitchen is grubby with cupboard handles dropping off. A piece of the living room ceiling is falling down probably from a previous water problem as there are signs of damp/water damage upstairs. Upstairs, the bathroom has a feature freestanding bath, but the bathroom is not welcoming its damp and grubby. The shower head is disgusting with a patch of plaster repair on the ceiling above. The main bedroom has signs of damp on the walls, and whilst the bedding is spottles, the bed feels damp and is very creaky. The property has the potential to be a fabulous holiday let, but it is NOT ready to be rented out in its present condition. It needs a complete refurbishment, if done to a high standard with addention to detail, then given its location, it could be a little hidden gem

"If we were to visit Thirsk again, we would attempt to book this property before looking at any other"

9.0

Location was superb No problem parking both our cars in front of the property

The stairs were a bit daunting and took some getting used to The bed in the main bedroom was a little low and there was no wardrobe Please note these are only personal observations and did not detract from our experience

"Did not stay left immediately"

1.0

Could not stay as stairs to upstairs are practically vertical. Do not stay if you have any kind of mobility problem, had to drive 100 miles to find dog friendly hotel at extra cost. Called host and asked for compensation, was told that I should book a bungalow and that I was stupid to book a house !! Only stayed 5 minutes completely unsuitable and very inconsiderate host
