1 Bed 1 Bath Basement Apartment with Private Entrance

We have booked for 5 nights and expected a good stay. However, we had to move out after 1 night because we have slept right next to a gutter and some pipes and the smell was unbearable, even though we were trying to get use to it for the 1st few hours. We figured this out because there was persistent bad smell in the room. The onsite host opened the closet right next to our bed, then I saw the gutter and pipes and bad smell was from it. I expressed our feeling that we could not stay for more nights after we’ve tried. He agreed with the situation and mentioned he would talk with Tiana to refund me for the rest nights. The next morning before we moved out, he then said totally different things. He said the smell only presents when it leaks, so there should not smell bad as there is no leak; per Tiana, it is our choice to leave so we cannot be refunded. Then I tried to contact booking.com, it looks they don’t regulate and manage their merchants properly, so far I’m still trying to contact them to get my refund back. Overall, the experience was unbelievably bad — imagine we had no choice to not sleep next to a gutter and unbearable smell — this is how the bedroom is set; we’ve paid all 5 nights but stayed 1 with no refund for the rest 4, which is more than $600. This experience turned our vacation to a nightmare. Yes it was our choice to leave the place after 1 night because we were set to sleep next to a gutter and smell what it is, and had no other choices as this is the only room in this property.
