"Excellent mix of contemporary and traditional"

10.0

Very nice place, Inn is old (1850, of course) but has been extensively restored. Very nice mix of traditional and modern, as sleek new furniture, contemporary wall treatments (huge prints of early 19th century scenes around the town of Rosendale) are mixed with beautiful old woodwork. Rooms well sized, ask for room with sitting area for extra space. Town is a bit of a 'hippie hangout' with eclectic mix of art galleries, etc. Staff very nice, with helpful advice about local sights, etc. Excellent local restarurants, and we always felt safe on the streets, even late at night. Took advantage of their offer of a 'picnic in the park' which is a nice picnic basket with admission to the MOHONK PRESERVE, a beautiful area for hiking. Only odd note was that fruit in our basket was a bit overripe, but sandwiches were great. Lunch came in insulated handled bag with cooling packets, so lunch stayed cold while we took our morning hike. Everything in room and bath was spotless! Breakfast bountiful, only no 'breakfast meats' such as bacon or sausage, etc were offered. Coffee and tea available 24/7 via Keurig, with nice selection. HUGE sitting area downstairs. Tavern in the Inn does not offer food. It was a very quiet Inn, even with tavern. All in all, a wonderful stay, We will be back!

"Fabulous 2 Night Stay"

10.0

Beautiful B&B!!! Modern homey rooms, great bed, clean, extremely friendly owner and staff. A couple of small town eating places and bars right outside the door. 10 min drive from Woodstock, about a 90 min drive from NYC. I would recommend this place to anyone. Nicer than photos suggest. (Full disclosure: I proposed in the bed of Room #4)!

"One night stay"

8.0

We found the 1850 house easily, it is a nice quaint and weel equipped place. Retaining the 1850 character while providing free wi-fi and flat screen TV is a fun combination. We had a little trouble with the room heater but got it straightened out soon enough. When we returned from dinner elsewhere we had to wait to park because the lot was jammed with other cars from nearby restaurants, but we got help and we're inside soon enough. We would certainly return if traveling in the area again.

"Beautifully updated historic inn in the Catskills"

10.0

A beautiful and comfortable inn in a quaint little town close to New Paltz, the 1850 was a very pleasant surprise. Because it is a slow time for the Inn, the tavern was closed and I was the only guest in the inn, but the innkeeper and her partner were very gracious and the town, though small, has some options for good meals. The room was small but very cozy with a nice shower pressure and plenty of hot water. Also, the common area is great for lounging. I was unable to stay for breakfast in the morning but I'm sure it would have been good. I will definitely plan to stay for breakfast during my next stay.

"Exactly what I was looking for"

10.0

I was looking for a unique, clean place to stay where I could sit by the fire and drink a beer. The 1850 House was all of these things. The room was nicely furnished, comfortable, and clean. The common areas downstairs looked lived-in but not run-down. It felt not unlike hanging out in one's own living room. The fire was a welcome addition on a winter day. I loved the breakfast- homemade and delicious (the blueberry french toast was phenomenal). All the staff I met were lovely and helpful. The 1850 House fulfilled every vision I had for my weekend away.

"Charming Inn with friendly staff"

10.0

My partner and I recently stayed at the 1850 Inn & Tavern and highly recommend it. The breakfast each morning was delicious with many fresh and healthy selections. The staff were friendly and accommodating and really went the extra distance to help us feel comfortable as well as give us tips about the area. The Widow Jane Whiskey is very good and it was nice to relax in the tavern before turning in. The Inn is tastefully decorated and beds are cozy.

"Wonderful getaway location 90 minutes north of NYC"

10.0

We wanted a place in the Hudson River Valley close enough to fun, scenic places like Woodstock, Rhinebeck and New Paltz, but in a laid-back environment where we could stroll a quiet town, hike the beautiful mountains and take in other natural attractions like the local rivers and lakes. The 1850 House had all that, and more. The building itself has history and personality, it's been polished to shine like a gem, and the staff could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. The tavern was a cozy place to hear about the town from locals, and to return after a short walk selecting among several good restaurants for a night cap and to chat with other guests as well as the owner and innkeeper. Tea and coffee in the impressively decorated and furnished sitting room and a full, superb breakfast in the sun room overlooking the lawn reaching down to the river capped it all off perfectly. Owner Mike offered to take us to the trestle bridge in his golf cart, and described his plan for a big deck out back. We definitely want to come back to see that, stay again, and revisit the shops and restaurants. We loved it!

"Quirky, Comtemporary, Historical"

8.0

My husband and I enjoyed the 1850 House very much. It was decorated very nicely with what I would describe as contemporary but historical flair. (i.e. large frameless prints of the surrounding area from times past). Our room, in keeping with that same theme, as well as the ensuite bathroom was very nicely appointed. Cleanliness is always a big factor in how comfortable I would rate any establishment and this B & B rates highly.

"Lots of things to do in the area."

The hotel was terrific. The staff and owner were friendly and helpful. Two places to eat within walking distance that were wonderful. Fun nights in the hotel tavern. Great weekend!
