Cwmbach Cottage, Hay on Wye

The cottage is in a quiet area, with nice local walks & good recommendation from the owner to wander the hill over the way from the property! Views for miles! Bedrooms are cosy & comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. Garden is such a lovely size, makes a nice change from “postage stamp” sized gardens, the brook is lovely to listen to! Lots of wildlife too.

Beds are super comfortable and felt homely. Was handy having a washing machine. We were a bit cold in the evening even though it was august so lit a fire on 2 nights of our stay.

Was a bit dusty in areas as though it had been missed during the clean. Shame there isn’t a dishwasher but understand the kitchen has limited space. Garden probably needed a bit of a tidy up and lawn cut. Front black door lock on the porch is a bit awkward to open with the key so we often used the back door to come in and out of during our stay.

The cottage is lovely, very well appointed and really good facilities. Easy to find, great location and very comfortable. Perfect for a family of 3 (or 4).

There was a fair bit of noise late on the second night with loud music after 10pm. It didn’t disturb us too much after we closed the bedroom windows but we were glad we didn’t need the windows open!

We loved everything about the property, including own parking space. All rooms generous size, we particularly liked the breakfast/dining room. Everything lovely quality right down to the mugs (lovely and big!) and the pots & pans.

Lovely big back garden with a brook at the bottom, just a bit more tidying needed around the edges and the banks of the brook and the front and perhaps a couple of containers with flowers for a bit of colour here and there would look lovely and I think this may be in hand as the gardener turned up during our stay. Perhaps a bit of a bigger TV.

The location suited us very well for our visit to the area. Hay on Wye is a short drive away, as well as the garden centre at Three Cocks, and it is not far to drive to Brecon either, where we went for Sunday lunch. The information folder recommended a short walk from the cottage and we enjoyed that, also walking to Foyles for a drink one evening. We were a group of 3 friends, the cottage was well equipped for our short stay. The cottage is very tastefully decorated.

The kitchen space is small but well equipped. The second bedroom contains 2 single beds and is small but was fine for sleeping. We had 2 cars between us and parked one car in a layby a few hundred yards from the cottage.
