"Ideal for Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall - comfortable and clean"

10.0

The small house is well located, overlooking the valley between Bakewell and Matlock. Access is easy if you have a car - less so by public transport. Beautiful view, as advertised, from the small terrace and front room. Everything was spic-and-span (but only rudimentary provisions of tea and coffee - so bring your own sugar and rubbish bags). The interior carefully and tastefully designed to Farrow and Ball standards. Kitchen equipment adequate (but we only used warm-ups). Bathroom and shower very clean and comfortable (big head shower). Lots to see nearby: Chatsworth and Haddon Hall (about 20 mins), Hardwick Hall (about 35 mins), Cromford (early industrial revolution) - take your Pevsner!

We struggled a little with the lock box. And it is sad to see plastic-covered windows in all the historic properties around the valley (except in conservation areas). The house is no exception, but there is one original window between the kitchen and the little winter garden at the back...

"Very pretty and clean cottage but a couple of hospitable touches would have made it a 10star review."

7.0

Beautifully clean and very well represented, we had a very enjoyable stay.

The heating was turned down to 9C when we arrived (Feb!) and it took ages for the cottage to warm up. Then on the last day it had been automatically turned down so we had a cold start and end to the trip. It would have been nice, at this price point, to have had more than a packet of biscuits and a jar of tea and coffee to welcome us - a pint of milk and some sugar would have been nice, also some logs and firefighters for the stove.

"Cosy beautiful house in a great location with amazing views"

9.0

Great location, amazing views

There was no recycling, the note said “please deposit all rubbish in the dustbin provided, no need to separate items, this is done on collection.” that was not the case. We had to ask the neighbours if we could borrow a recycling bag as we wanted to help the environment and recycle.

"Great little cottage but the problem with the hob needs resolving."

7.0

The location was great, on street parking was no problem, the views were spectacular and the property almost lived up to every expectation

We could not get the electric hob to work satisfactorily, the rings would not achieve sufficient heat to use the frying pan supplied. We eventually used the grill which was great. There was no instruction book to enable us to check that we were using the controls correctly.

"On the whole pleasant but not value for money. Would not recommend to friends."

8.0

Location too far from shops a and amenities. Comfortable lounge.

Bed in smaller bedroom was very uncomfortable, too big for the room, no room to move. Didn't appreciate the timer turning the heating off when needed. Objected to neighbours having access to our backyard.

"Nice, but wouldn't stay again."

6.0

Beautiful view, beautifully decorated house and well located for local adventures into near by towns.

The house was freezing cold and would not get warm for love or money. They sent me email telling me anything other than a normal change over would be charged for but didn't provide dishwasher tablets or bin bags, I had to email and ask, thought that was odd. Provided two toilet rolls for two adults whole stay, 3 wine glasses, odd plates - just not very well equipped. Maybe they are new to this? The thing that really left a sad taste in my mouth was we went for my partners 40th, I emailed ahead an asked if I posted a banner and some balloons would they mind putting them up and they wanted £10 extra for housekeepers time.. it would have taken all of 5 minutes when she was already there. Thought that was a really sad reply to give and not in good spirits. I wasn't asking a lot.
