A little Cowboy Cabin by the Badlands!

We have mixed feelings. Check-in was easy and the host was responsive; parts of the cabin have obviously been updated (mainly the kitchen/dining area and bathroom floors plus a fresh coat of indoor paint, a great water heater, and a pleasant shower). The rest is obviously an old, heavily used, unimproved, dark house. The outside siding is in bad shape; most of the flooring is old, heavily used wood; some windows are cracked and appear to be inoperable; the wiring for the kitchen stove fan was hanging down along the wall and wrapped with duct tape; the furnishings mostly appear to be well used pieces picked up at random; the box spring and mattress in the main bedroom simply sit on the floor (no bed frame) and are shoved into a corner so one person has to climb over the other; there was an active wasp nest in the porch ceiling and the porch flooring appeared to just sit on the ground. The front lawn was basically weeds and an untended flower bed; the back/side lawn was grass that didn't appear to have been mowed in some time. Bottom line: There were some positives, but they were far outweighed by the negatives. If we are in the area again, we will consider another alternative, probably in Wall or Rapid City.

The overall experience was made worse by the fact that the entire length of the street running in front of the house was completely excavated and impassible, so we were to told to park in the middle of a side alley and carry our belongings through another person's back yard in semi-darkness (and heavy rain the next morning). The owner did their best with directional signs and lighting; however, all this was an unpleasant surprise that we didn't learn about until we received check-in instructions at 4:00 pm on our arrival date.

Nothing in the property meets any building code!

Experience living in a late nineteenth century homestead with present day amenities added. It's not what one expects in a typical airbnb. But it has a old era charm in a quiet location.

Not providing soap shampoo in the bathroom was a surprise

The property was convenient to the Badlands. It was also clean and affordable.

The parking isn’t by the house because of road construction. You have to walk across a neighbors yard to get to the place. The house needs a few updates. Couch is old, bed is very low to the ground, and there are very little amenities. There was no code available for the WiFi.

I can't think of anything

With very short notice I was informed that we had to park our car about 100 yards away from the property and walk across the neighbor's lawn to get to the rental. This was due to road construction that had been ongoing for some time and would continue for the foreseeable future. This was very inconvenient, particularly when it was raining in the morning. Also, our loaded car was less secure. If I had known about this situation earlier I would have booked a hotel. The cabin is kind of rustic minimalist and not a pleasant place to stay

getting to the property. would have liked an advance notice of construction in the area and the ability to get to the cabin. I'm handicapped and walking distance and terrain from vehicle was hard.
