Villa Ma-Re

Last full day here at Villa Ma Re & I'm feeling sad to have to leave this place. If you're looking for a relaxing, tranquil place to stay, then this is it! We had everything we needed & the air conditioning was so refreshing after a hot day in the sun. Two or so minute walk to a local supermarket & restaurant. Five minute walk to get to the sea. Lidl isn't far, maybe a five minute drive & Hersonissos (larger town) five minute drive in the other direction. We shared our outdoor space with lovely residents in the cottage beside us & still able to feel a sense of privacy! Hope this helps! Will definitely come back!

Everything was great, the house was clean, the sheets and towels were fresh and smelled good, we felt like home there! Super relaxing pool area, the kids loved it and the parents could fully relax! :) Mairi and Manos treated us like family and were super attentive ! Thank you once again and we will be back !❤️

The villa exceeded our expectations, and we had the best time there! The hosts are amazing and very helpful and the property is very comfy. Best stay on Crete!

The one-bedroom villa was perfect for 2 people! The house and the garden were beautifully taken care and the view from the Villa was really nice. It was pretty close to a supermarket, good restaurants, and beautiful small beaches. I've well heard of the hospitality of Cretan people and Mairi showed a great example of it. She prepared a lot of welcoming local gifts for us and brought us snacks and self-made breakfast during our stay. Since we didn't have a car, she also offered us driving a few times whenever she's available. I definitely recommend this place and would like to come back!

We didn't want to rent a car, so it was a bit tricky to move around. The bus stop to go to Heraklion city center is 30 mins away and taxi is not so cheap. Renting a car would be recommended.

The host by far was the best part of our stay because she was very kind, responsive, and did everything she could to make this a pleasant stay. Any resolvable issues were quickly addressed and made more manageable. The kitchen was very well stocked with supplies to comfortably make meals and a nicely done gift basket that included wine and several local products await you. The location of the home is near several restaurants, a grocery store, and beach access, all within easy walking distance. The bed linens were clean and there were plenty of towels and hot water available during our stay. The pool and its surrounding area were well maintained, allowing for a pleasant swim at your leisure.

It is not clear on the website, which is the larger villa and smaller cottage. We stayed in the villa, located on the left with the larger building and below the host's summer house. My biggest problem was you could hear everything in the home above to include walking, moving chairs, talking, and other normal everyday activities. I was disappointed to find the only AC units are in the 2 bedrooms. A window exists between the 2 bedrooms, so you can see the light when turned on in each room, making it difficult to sleep (see photos). The 2nd bedroom has a small window that allows outside light. No AC unit exists to control the temperature in the living/dining room/kitchen area. There is no lake view and the sea view while in the villa is barely visible (see photos). The colors inside are dark in nature and the lightening creates a dull, yellow setting. Parking and driving are awkward due to a bend in the road as you try to enter the long driveway and you need to pull out to the other lane to enter. This is made worse by frequent tourist buses taking guests to and from the resorts. The area is generally quiet, but during parts of the day and night you can hear the resorts entertaining their guests with music and talking through a loudspeaker system. We had wi-fi access issues, but the host went out of her way to fix them to include buying a repeater and satellite USB stick, allowing us to access the Internet with my laptop. A technician replaced faulty cables, so there should not be any further issues. That said, the current wi-fi plan has very slow speeds (see photo), but the host indicated she was looking to change companies and get a better program. There is an ant problem in the larger bathroom and a large snail attached itself and was eating a banana located on the kitchen countertop. The host recognized the former issue and said the latter one hadn't happened in the 30 years that she has lived there. Some spots needed better cleaning (see photos).

It’s a Cretan style house, which has everything You need during the vacation. The hosts are a couple, who live in the same villa. We had a warm welcome with small greetings- olive oil, tea, wine, watermelon, water and even an oven baked lamb ( was very tasty). The house features a new shared waterpool and garden.

Villa Ma-Re is by far one of the best places we've stayed at. It is spotlessly clean, neat, spacious, and well-taken care of, as the owners of the house live there, too, and spent their holidays. The house is on elevated ground, giving us an amazing view of the ocean and the surroundings. The place is very close to several beaches. We followed the advice of the owner, Mairi, and swam daily by Golden Beach (5-8 min. away), where there weren't many rocks. The cottage we had was spacious and very comfortable, decorated with traditional ornaments, a bit dark to create a nice balance between the bright sunlight outside and the cool, airconditioned, and relaxing area inside - a place with so much soul. We had a pool and an ocean view from both the kitchen, living room and the veranda, where we spent many hours in a paradise-like peace. The highlight was the nice and clean pool with fresh water. What a joy that was for our kids! We had everything we needed in the house. The kitchen, where we cooked for several days without missing anything, was just perfect! There are plenty of restaurants and a minimarket, Galaxy Store, just a stone's throw away. The supermarket Lidl is also not far away, just about 1,5 km, which could easily be walked to in 15 min. (Be careful, though, and watch out for cars and motorcycles, especially those driven by tourists who do not know the area. There are almost no pedestrian areas, so you must share the narrow streets with other walking people, cats as well as driving cars and motorcycles in both directions.) We were very impressed by the owners of the house, Mairi and Diamantis, who took such good care of us while we were there such as driving us to the supermarket, calling the taxi driver for us, giving us insider information about the area, Kreta, Greece etc. I enjoyed every single conversation with them and we even had a chance to taste Mairi's lovely food. What a privilege!
