The booking was to pay at the site, but the owner insisted that we had to pay in advance with a credit card on the Booking website. This was impossible, as also confirmed by the Booking customer service. The owner refused to accept this and didn't suggest any other method for us to pay, except for a Venmo link he sent after hours (which we could not use anyway as it requires a US phone number). He never responded to any alternative option, and every attempt to contact him was essentially ignored. The one time we managed to contact him on the phone and explained the situation, he refused to listen and threatened to hung up on us. After four hours on the street at the phone with the Booking customer service, we managed to have the reservation unilaterally cancelled by Booking, with no fees to us. To do so, however, we had to wait hours until midnight in front of the property (with the additional inconvenience of having to find an alternative accomodation last minute).
