16th Century Courtyard Apartment on the Royal Mile

The location is unbeatable and offered us an incredible opportunity to walk everywhere within the city center, only needing transportation to and from the airport. Being in such a historic building truly added to the experience, immersing us in the city's rich past. The house itself was lovely, with plenty of space and a very well-equipped kitchen. Adding to the positive experience, Andrew and Jenny were incredibly nice and helpful throughout our stay.

As with many historic properties in central locations, noise was a significant factor. The sounds of the city, including late-night partiers and traffic, were quite pronounced, like they were right inside the room. Additionally, the curtains didn't block out all the light from outside so I personally struggled with the noise and light levels and didn't get much sleep. Despite this, I wouldn't trade this experience for a stay in a quieter, more modern hotel. Being in the heart of Edinburgh, surrounded by history, was an integral part of our trip and contributed to our overall love for the city.

Great location in the heart of old Edinburgh on the Royal Mile. It’s a studio apartment but it’s reasonably spacious and nicely set out. Great to have a washing machine. Small fridge but fine. Easy to get in, good instructions, short stircase outside apartment but it’s not hard to manage with luggage. The location was great: hard to beat really.

As it is an old building right in town you definitely hear noise on the streets from people partying. We did find it a little hard to sleep at times but on the whole the noise dies off enough for a decent sleep if you’re not a super early riser. There are also roadworks currently on the royal mile very close to the partner and they were noisy on the weekdays: not sure when they end. Can’t be helped. The bed was ok but the mattress is getting a big saggy.

Wonderful location! Edinburgh is at your doorstep and even if you want to enjoy the cosy flat, main attractions are five minutes away. Very clean, fully equipped and stocked with everything you would need for a 'sweet' stay ;-). Hosts are very attentionate and provide all information needed. I was here with my son to enjoy a football match at Murrayfield and a few days of Edinburgh. We will be back with my wife, for sure!

Noise from the street at night

This property is in an excellent location, right on the Royal Mile and about a 5-minute walk from the castle.

The owner decided to schedule electricians to come while I was staying there (for something that was broken before I arrived) and this should have been done when no one was there. My choices were to gather up my valuables and be gone for the timeframe they gave, or stay in the apartment with 3 men I didn’t know. As a solo, woman traveler, I felt uncomfortable with the latter, so I stayed out as long as I could, but had to come back and work in the afternoon and the men were still there working. For the inconvenience, the owner said he would give me compensation and I told him a refund for one night would be good since this service should have been done when no one was there and I felt out out for the day. Well, the day before I left, I asked how I should check out and he never got back to me, so I left the keys on the kitchen counter and locked the door. The owner then claimed that they had to pay to retrieve them and they wouldn’t give me any compensation for the electrician inconvenience. I’ve been going back and forth with Booking about this and haven’t been able to come to a conclusion, so I feel very cheated by both parties. This is a very niche situation, so hopefully others won’t have to deal with this, but just know, it’s a possibility. Also, it gets very loud at night. The walls are very thin and people are out late. I did see that there were ear plugs provided.
