Villa La Estancia - Medano Beach Villas

I liked how close the resort was to the ocean and how close it was to several wonderful restaurants.

I was asking security for some assistance during a situation that they said was happening in my room while we were all at the pool. The security staff were all speaking in English to me, I'm not bilingual, and when I pointed out how rude one of their staff member's behavior was, that staff member switched to speaking in Spanish. Her tone and body language came off as if she was speaking badly about me, not to mention there was another guest (whom I did not know) that was in earshot of us and understood what she was saying and later confirmed she was in fact calling me names. When I asked them if we could please continue the conversation in English, one of the security members told me "you're in Mexico". I was shocked at the response and reminded them that we had all been communicating in English with no issues. They continued their conversation in Spanish & it felt like there would be no progress to resolve the original issue at hand so I asked if we could please just end the encounter & I went back to my family at the pool. Afterwards I did not feel like making a formal complaint because I figured it would just be disregarded since their staff was clearly comfortable with openly being disrespectful to guests who couldn't understand them.

the 2 bedroom apartment was HUGE - way bigger than we thought it be from the pictures. Beautifully clean and perfect for a family of 4 (or even 6!). The resort itself consists of apartments which people own and rent out when not using, so our intitial concerns when driving up about it being huge didn't make any difference - the resort was quiet, lovely pools, immaculate lush grounds, really attentive and polite staff, and a few steps through the resort and you're on the beach. They have their own private bit with their own loungers which were always readily available. Beautiful beach and the water was perfect! There's an onsite Starbucks (if you like that kind of thing) which one of us would hop down to first thing in the morning to get a few morning coffees to take back to the room. A short walk along the beach and you'll find other restaurants / bars such as Tabasco's - nice tacos and local vibe. The whole area is so chilled, and away from the craziness of town.

The resort itself is about 2 miles or so from the Marina and "town". Didn't bother us, as we just wanted to escape for the weekend. But it means that you're going to be eating in one of the restaurants in the complex unless you're cooking in your apartment (there are 3 or 4 main restaurants). And this is where it falls down a bit. It's not a complaint, but just making people aware. The prices are INSANE. not just expensive (this is Cabo, so I was expecting $$$) but the food in all of them was really average, and the price for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) for every meal (no drink) would work out around $200 for every meal, whether breakfast, dinner, whatever. And the food really wasn't worth half that, think average cafe quality. It's eye watering. So felt completely ripped off by this. Same with the onsite market. (I know we could have just taken a taxi to the local shops, but we're there for a long weekend.) Bottle of sunscreen $40, one milky way bar for the kids - $12 each. You get the idea! So I'd suggest leaving the resort and go for a walk along the beach for eating. That said, buffet breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the beach was such a lovely vibe! SO chilled! But would heartily recommend this place to others. Such a lovely chilled weekend away.

Location and really nice staff

Location location location! The views from our room were some of the best views we’ve ever had. The room and bathroom were very spacious and clean, and of course the staff were very friendly and helpful when we needed directions on how to get into town (walking or Uber) or anything else. We decided to walk into town on our first day and regretted it instantly as it was SO humid lol so if your traveling in August, an Uber during the day might be best. The pool was really nice, not huge but a good size, and since we traveled in August which is apparently offseason, it really wasn’t too full so finding good tanning beds was easy. *Side note* the doormen greet everyone by putting their hand on their chest while nodding and saying “welcome home” 😂 very sweet. I quickly took a few photos of the view from the room and bathroom before we checked out.

Not anything to complain about, but the few things to be a little clearer about would be how to use the Do Not Disturb sign that isn’t a sign, but instead they use loose hanging beads that was hanging on the inside of the door handle. We’ve never seen that before, so make sure to put that on the outside of the door on the handle if you don’t want your room to be cleaned etc. And how to use the safe (which we never ended up using in the end). It was a bit different than the usual safe you’d normally find in hotels etc. And lastly, the wifi password they gave us when checking in at the front desk was incorrect. Thankfully we found the correct password next to the phone on the left side of the bed. P.s. drinks at the pool tasted great but not much alcohol at all, so I wouldn’t recommend ordering anything from there other than a beer or wine. Not sure about the food there, as we ate all our meals out at the restaurants in town (which I highly recommend!!)
