Solar dos Cantos Botanic House & Garden

The hotel is in a beautiful garden with views across the city to the port. It is in a well restored old mansion with spaces to rest - a library and a writing room. Bedrooms were spacious with very comfortable beds and plenty of plugs for laptops / pads etc. An easy walk to the city and the waterfront but quite a steep climb up the hill back to the hotel - not a problem for us, but it is something to keep in mind if you have some mobility issues

The staff were all delightful but not always easy to find them. There was often no-one at the reception and even though there is a button at the desk to call for someone, it is small, very discreet (as in not noticeable unless you are looking for it) and in any case it seems a bit odd that there is often no-one at the reception desk in a hotel. A small issue that did not bother us personally, but was an issue for the taxis we took: there are two entrances to the hotel, both with very narrow and difficult gates. Taxis found it very difficult to maneuver to get in - an not all taxis even knew that there is a second entry (though just as tight and narrow) at an upper level which is important for visitors in the upstairs rooms with heavy luggage.

avevo prenotato con larghissimo anticipo e ho avuto un prezzo buono - ma sotto data una notte costava il doppio - quindi prenotate per tempo meglio

Heerlijk ontbijt, zelden zo uitgebreid en lekker meegemaakt. De tuin met een prachtige dikke boom en veel bijzondere planten. Een oase van rust compleet met vogelconcert. Het zwembad met verwarmde whirlpool. De kamer is luxe en smaakvol ingericht.

Vanaf de houten vlonder, bij het zwembad, stap je op een zeer gladde, in mijn geval natte tegel, in de daarbij gelegen doucheruimte. Had dit niet verwacht en ben hard onderuit gegaan. Heb als souvenir van deze prachtige plek een gekneusde pink. Desondanks zou ik er zo weer naar toe willen. Een gewaarschuwd mens, telt voor twee😀

The property was beautifully appointed. Our room was large, updated and very comfortable. The grounds were manicured with sitting areas sprinkled through out. The pool area was well maintained and modern. Unfortunately when we were there the weather wasn’t the best so we were unable to enjoy the outdoor facilities. There are cozy public spaces where you can sit and read, play chess, or sip cocktails. The breakfast had several delicious choices with some healthy options. And the staff were a 10. The location is about a 10 minute walk into town which we purposely chose because it is private and tranquil away from the busy city, and we got our daily steps in. It’s a perfect walk after dinner in town.

Wir hatten eines der oberen Zimmer, sehr geräumig und schön eingerichtet. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Hotel und die Räume sind geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Der Garten ist sehr schön. Pool und Jakuzzi machen Spaß.

Die Matratze ist/war für schwerer Personen nicht besonders geeignet. Die Federn (Federkern) spürt man schon, bzw. Biegen sich ordentlich durch. Das gute Frühstück ist wenig abwechslungsreich. Offensichtlich wenig Erfahrung mit Lunchpaketen (anstelle Frühstück), 1x komplett vergessen, das zweite war, naja … Hauptsache es macht halbwegs satt.

O pequeno-almoço foi ótimo: tinha ananás dos Açores e um bolo caseiro muito bom!

The property sits within a beautiful botanical garden and is the perfect location to walk into ponta delgada. The breakfast was just right and great to fuel us for the day's activities. All the staff were super friendly professional and made us feel at home straight away. A special mention to Roberto (I think) he welcomed us in such a warm and friendly way and it was the perfect start to our exciting adventure on the island. For experiencing the island without having to worry about renting a car for the first few days, solar dos cantos was perfect. The rooms were elegantly decorated and the stay at the property was definitely the best we had on the island and we wished we'd stayed there longer.oh and the lounge/study/ sitting room in the shared area was so cozy and relaxing .
