"A great place to stay in the heart of Devon"

10.0

The cottage is a lovely place to stay, with a home from home feel about it. The kitchen is great with ample space to cook or there are two pubs close by if you don’t fancy cooking. Both beds were comfortable to sleep in and the bathroom was modern with a good shower.

The parking was a bit of a pain, we came back a couple of times to find the spot in front of the cottage was taken so had to use the public car park in the village

"A beautiful cottage"

10.0

An absolutely beautiful cottage, and the large size was extremely surprising. Tastefully decorated throughout and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners communication was great and extremely helpful.

There really is nothing to not like, if I was been really picky I found the mattress too soft and therefore not great for my back but that really is being picky and of course personal preference.

"Well appointed cottage in a charming setting"

7.0

This is a lovely cottage that has been beautifully renovated with quality fixtures and fittings. We loved the wood burner, comfy sofa and well appointed kitchen including nice touches like milk in the fridge, tea and coffee in the cupboard and washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets provided. This is so helpful when you’re self catering. As a family with limited mobility, the layout of the cottage worked well for us. It has a downstairs toilet plus a bathroom upstairs adjacent to the two double bedrooms with a shower cubicle as well as a separate bath tub. The cottage was perfectly located in the charming Main Street of Hatherleigh amongst other “chocolate box” thatched cottages. It was easy to park right outside and there was a handy Co-op opposite, which provided us with freshly baked goods when it opened at 7am on the Sunday morning. We also enjoyed a meal at the George pub,a delightful historic coaching inn just a short stroll up the Main Street.

On arrival on a very hot evening, we struggled to open the windows which were wooden and had probably expanded in the heat. But on one of the hottest days of the year so far, the cottage felt stuffy and we were unable to get any ventilation. The following morning we had no hot water. It could’ve been our error with working the boiler properly, but it would be helpful to have clear instructions in the boiler cupboard itself. Finally, the luxury feel of the cottage was let down by the polyester duvets and pillows. This may be a personal choice as allergies can affect many but even so, the bedding was not high quality. I have shared my views with the owners who were courteous and helpful. I am sure they will rectify these issues and then we would definitely stay again.
