Mundo Abu San Juan La laguna

Nice owners who were very helpful. I loved the sauna and that the water activities were so accessible- kayaks, paddle boards, water bikes. Flat fee to use throughout your whole stay. If you love being in the water this would be an awesome stay. Quieter than San Pedro but limited food options in San Juan.

For the deluxe family rooms (one of the top three tin roof rooms), it was incredibly hot each morning by 8am so we couldn’t sleep in or hang in the room during the day time. The room would be hotter than outside. I didn’t think my stay was a good value for the price but the dorms might be a much better value as they’re downstairs where it is cool.

It’s very quiet, which can be an issue with hostels. The owner was very welcoming and took the time to show me around and there is the option to pay for eggs, coffee etc there too.

I would say it isn’t quite as clean as I’d have liked, it’s difficult as the majority of it is outside, but it felt like some of the kitchen utensils etc were a bit dirty. It was also quite isolated from the main town as a solo traveller. I’m sure it’s much better in the peak season when there are other people there to converse with. It was also a bit more expensive than other hostels in the town.

It‘s a wonderful place with the cutest hosts Abu, Gerson & Carlos. It‘s the perfect place tonrelax rught at the lake.

Beautiful location, secluded with a great view of Lake Atitlan. Tons of activities and the property is well maintained.

I had a wonderful 2-night stay at Mundo Abu. The place is absolutely magical — waking up to the views of the Mayan Face, enjoying the lake at sunrise, and even experiencing the full moon over Atitlán made the stay unforgettable. I also loved the sauna experience and the peaceful atmosphere throughout the property. The location is perfect: walking distance to downtown San Juan La Laguna and the boat embarcadero, making it super convenient while still feeling relaxing and quiet. A special thank you to Carlos and the rest of the staff for being so warm, welcoming, and attentive during my stay. Their hospitality truly made the experience even more special. Highly recommend Mundo Abu if you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful, and authentic Lake Atitlán experience
