GBIt was easy enough to get in, I guess. It seems like the cleaner is trying hard, but some things, like the completely black mouldy bath, would be beyond their control - just needs completely redoing.
It was genuinely a terrible experience. We had to find alternative accommodation for our second night. The mattresses are so old that we all tried to make beds from cushions and slept on the floor. None of us slept that night so it ruined our plans. The shower is broken so that it only gives scalding hot water, making it unusable. Really dangerous! In reviews from a year ago it says that the owners have agreed to fix it, but they haven't bothered. The shower screen is hanging off dangerously by one screw at the bottom. Very concerning if a child is under it when it falls. One of the stair tread floorboards is snapped, meaning that you're just held up by the carpet on that step. Again, really dangerous! The whole place smells of old nicotine. It's really depressing. Other more aesthetic things too, like plaster ripped from the walls. Oh it's just a horrible place to be, I'm afraid! Oh and the wifi goes on and off all the time. I've been in contact with them prior to writing this, but just got generic replies, nothing useful and no acknowledgment of the problem. I've never written a bad review in my life, so wanted to resolve this with them first, but I just feel I have to warn others as it was such a bad experience and totally wiped out our weekend. The lack of sleep was the worst part and that would be easily fixed with new mattresses. It also needs a new shower and shower screen, but again if someone were to just read the reviews and feedback, that shouldn't be hard.
GBGBGBGBGreat quiet location. Very close to the local Co-op and lots of restaurants nearby to choose from. Within a couple miles from York Minster, National Railway Museum and other main attractions in York as well. I remember reading some reviews mentioning that the Wifi was poor, but I did not find that to be the case. The Wifi signal was strong and consistent. Ample parking within the premises and outside.
The staircase floorboards were creaking a bit so had to be a bit careful when stepping on it. Hope it is not a serious issue, but worth having a look. The one of the bathroom shower controls were difficult to maneuver so we got only boling hotwater, but we could use the other shower to make do so was not a big deal.
