La Casa Del Nonno

Very good position in Monreale, bus stop to Palermo out front. The views from the balcony overlooking the valley to Palermo are breathtaking. One double bed not two. VERY steep driveway, especially for a big car. However the owner, a very kind man, is happy to drive your car up and down so this is not an issue. Definitely recommend this place.

Beppe and his wife were charming and friendly hosts, who provided helpful advice and assistance negotiating the steep driveway, and taking our bags up the many stairs. For us, the challenge of getting up the drive was more than offset by having secure off-street parking. The apartment is quirky but spacious and comfortable with everything you might need. The view over the Conca d'Oro is breathtaking. It is a short walk up a gentle slope to Monreale, and the bus into Palermo stops just outside.

LARGE and comfortable apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, laundry washing machine, and spacious living room area. Big refrigerator and great cooking set up. The apartment is on the upper floors of the building on the side of the mountain with amazing views of the valley, mountains, and the sea. Wi Fi worked well. The location is just off the main road within about 200-300 meters walking distance to Monreale old town. Removed from the chaotic Palermo traffic but easy access to E90 freeway and beyond. The host is fantastic. He is able to communicate in English and very gracious in helping us with our broken Italian. He helped us park and gave us bus tickets. Easy, walkable access to Monreale Cathedral. Bus stop to Palermo literally within 10-20 ft of the driveway entrance.

The driveway is long, narrow, tight, steep, and windy! Not for the faint in heart. It is difficult to navigate. We arrived in a rainstorm and we weren't sure we would make it to the top of the driveway. We would have severely damaged our rental car trying to turn around on the tight, steep driveway without the host's gracious help. In fact, we parked the car off-property down on the sidewalk curb along the main road after a day out because of the driveway difficulty. But, that was still a suitable solution - we could see the parked car on the sidewalk from the apartment. The buses between Monreale and Palermo are infrequent. So, you must look up the bus schedules and be on time or you will be waiting for an hour or more for the next bus. The hosts are heavy smokers. The stairwell leading up to the apartment wreaks of smoke and tobacco. The smells did not penetrate the apartment interior, thankfully.

Very spacious and comfortable appartment with great view over Palermo and walking distance to Monreale cathedral. Free parking. Very nice and helpful owner.

Very beautiful view over the Palermo area and the sea. Really cute house with retro elements but also quality renovations - very cool. The owners are lovely as well and made us feel like home! We would come back!

Nothing much really! The kitchen could do with an extra frying pan but thats nitpicking haha.

The location is great for those who have a car since LA Casa Del Nonno is right on the border of Palermo and Monreale which makes it super convenient to get to wherever you need to be. It might be a bit more difficult for those without private means of transportation. The staff are a very nice and generous. They were very hospitable and easy to get in contact with for any questions or concerns. The only concern we had was just with the stove as we were unfamiliar with how to get it to work and they quickly came by and showed us.

This isn't a dislike but simply some caution for foreigners with little experience of driving in Sicily. Those unfamiliar with driving on steep hills, it could be a bit anxiety provoking. I know I was a bit concerned the first time I drove up the driveway but I adapted and got very comfortable with it. There's nothing that can be done about the geography of Sicily and the location. The panoramic view and the hospitality more than make up for this small concern.

This house is great for a family or group vacation. It's 25-30 minutes away from Palermo city & the airport. It's right at the beginning of the town of Monreale. The city view from here is wonderful. We loved the interior of the place. It's a family-owned property and they've done a great job of maintaining it. Even though it's uphill, it's wheelchair accessible. The doors make a lot of noise when they open & close but it's not a huge issue. The internet speed is about 10 mbps but the connection is very stable, so it didn't bother us. We worked from here for a week and had no interruptions. The best part about the property though are the hosts. They were very polite, warm & resourceful from the very beginning. They also had some welcome fruits & drinks prepared for us when we arrived. Given that it's very warm during this time of the year, they also left some ice cream for us in the fridge. We're definitely going to stay here again when we visit Sicily.

Extraordinary apartment!!! We really really liked La Casa Del Nonno! Spacy and large apartment. After major renovation but still kept the original elegant style of the apartment. The kitchen was more than fully equipped. Since we are vegetarian that was a big plus for us, because most of the times we could cook our meals. Bathrooms were large and spacy, everything very clean and well arranged. Bed was very comfortable. Landry facilities were available too. The place is easy to reach by bus from Palermo. The bus stop was right next to the house. The host was very easy to reach after booking. They were very kind and friendly. Attentive for everything. We were very pleased by our stay in La Casa Del Nonno.
