"Overall brilliant stay with minor issues"

8.0

Location was great. Felt well informed throughout and provided all the information needed for the stay including very clear instructions for access to keys. Hot tub was incredible and overall had a very lovely stay. Fresh towels were provided for all guests which was lovely. Shower was great and facilities on the whole were brilliant.

There were a few minor things. It was obvious that they had recently treated the place for a pest issue and there were the remains of said pests which hadn't been tidied up. However, when this was highlighted, the owner did kindly offer to sort this out straight away. Also, a few of the crockery items were a bit old and the oven was a bit fiddly - but again, very minor issue which didn't impact our stay.

"NOT AS ADVERTISED"

1.0

I am writing the review I wished I’d read before booking this place. Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of August as part of a diverse group of 17 aged 0-79 years. The property was booked to suit everyone’s needs, specially the lodges for a couple with a baby and toddler, the other for older couple with a adult child and partner. They are described on the website as “Two Separate Lodges-studio apartments with a kitchenette and en-suite,sleeps 4 in each, with one double bed. 1 x double sofa bed” Any dictionary definition states that a Lodge (noun) is a small building, separate from a larger house, or a small house, gamekeeper’s lodge etc. and as such we were honestly looking for the other Lodge when we arrived. The inappropriately named “Coach House” is neither a Lodge ,nor separate nor a house of any description for that matter. It is in fact a room with a pitched roof on top of another small building called The Lodge - the converted ROOF SPACE of that building. It’s accessed via a steep set of jagged steps (upon which one person badly cut their knee open) and a tiny door. The area around it is apparently also the dumping ground for the rest of the property. The so called “double “ sofa bed was the most basic, hard, short pieces of foam on a metal frame and the width of a large single at best. Also due to the pitch of the roof it would have been impossible for a couple to sleep on even if it had been a double. The owner was not there at the time but directed his rep to provide a single mattress for the floor and offered a conciliatory bottle of Prosecco,in itself an admission that the accommodation was sub-standard and not as described. - that it slept 4 adults. It was also badly in need of renovation and so cramped, uncomfortable and depressing we all four left after two nights. I tried contacting the owner several times via his rep to request a refund for the most affected couple but did not receive a reply. Finally I escalated the matter with Booking.
