Benton Guesthouse, Private Nostalgic Showa-era House, former Akiya

Dani gave us a very interesting walk around the property and answered all the questions we had about traditional Japanese living which was very kind. Dani is so generous with her time and very clearly committed to her guests having a lovely time.

It felt like going back in time to the countryside, getting to truly relax.

The location of this lovingly restored property. Wish we were staying there for longer. The host Dani was great with communication and helping us book dinner.

Probably a bit big and hence pricey for two people.

I was only able to stay one night. Next time I’d like to stay longer.

We really enjoyed staying at the Benton Guesthouse. The house was spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and charmingly furnished. We really liked having a full kitchen. The bed was very comfy. This was the first time we had stayed in a private guesthouse, and we were thrilled!

I’m sure it’s just a quirk of this particular house, but all the windows are frosted. You can’t actually see outside unless you open the window.

We absolutely loved our stay at Benton. Dani and Evan were amazing hosts, making sure we knew everything about the house on check in, booking amazing restaurants for us and being very understanding about the reality of us travelling with children and going out of their way to help us out with anything we needed. It was far and above the best place I have ever stayed in Japan across the 7 or so trips I have made there. We will definitely be back.

Das wunderbare japanische Haus liegt sehr ruhig und ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail renoviert. Die Küche ist perfekt ausgestattet. Man kann wählen zwischen westlichen Betten und Futons. Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Schade, dass wir nur eine Nacht da waren.
