"A Gem of a Stay"

10.0

Beautiful rooms within a lovely setting. If you love characterful properties and atmospheric scenes it's a great place to switch off and unwind. The hosts were really attentive via WhatsApp and text even though it was a Self check in.

Signage within the building could have been clearer.

Very last minute booking for work and I lucked out. Stunning, rustic building in a beautiful location, but still close enough to the town and major roads. The room was beautiful and very comfy (the bed especially). The usual room essentials were all high quality, as was the view. Hope to be back without the work part next time. A visit to their nature reserve is also highly recommended (especially if you're a birder).

Honestly, nothing

"Avoid at all costs: customer service is worse than non-existent"

1.0

Knowing Dragonby, I'm sure the surrounding area is lovely. It's certainly an easy distance from Scunthorpe.

My family never made it as far as the hotel. Having actively ignored the message I sent them on the day of booking (requesting accessibility information) the hotel proceeded to wait until the free cancellation period was over and then inform me that there were "steep stairs". Obviously, safety and wellbeing come first, so I had to book my family elsewhere. Sawcliffe Manor now refuse to provide a refund (even a partial one which would allow me to recoup the loss I suffered due to having to book alternative accommodation) and have flung various mistruths at me. I can see from other poor reviews that they have a tendency to "answer back" but, in the end, I need to write this review to protect anyone else from enduring rudeness, incompetence - and even passive theft - at their hands. I should say as well: they are obsessed with an "app" which is insanely difficult to use.
