Palmyra Square by Tŷ SA

I had to book this at the last minute as the original property cancelled so I was grateful there was a vacancy. However it was more pricey that my cancelled booking. The apartment was spacious and the facilities were adequate. There was plenty of tea/coffee and biscuits. Also soap, washing up liquid, shower gels, fresh towels, loo roll. Unlike some previous reviews I didn't see or smell much damp. I slept well enough and didn't need to put the heating on.

I think more could be done about privacy. The main door has small windows that people could look into the property from the road. The kitchen window did not have any blinds or curtains so anyone could come down the back stairs and look in, especially as the shower/toilet is located in the kitchen area. I had trouble trying to place my toiletries as there is no shelf to put them and the skin basin is tiny.

The location is superb, close to the train station within walking distance, easy to access with lots of malls to get groceries and African food. The room was spacious, neat kitchen, multiple clean towels for days and self check in/out was easy.

Damp and molds on the entrance to the living room and toilet wall which was painted over but still visible. BQ in disrepair with visible green algae and molds, decayed leaves at the backyard made the place an eye sore when the room windows are opened. The basement room becomes very noisy when the guest above puts on the tap or flush (dripping sounds which significantly interrupts ones rest)

a lower ground garage adapted to apartment, -very noisy when neighbors upstairs are in, -shitty view from the windows on the back (kind of dirty/smelly toilet there) (pics) -dirt on sofa-bed (pics) -only two chairs, both danger to sit on (pics) -Hot Water sys. not set, not checked, not prepared for guests... spent my own time (hours) to sort it for my family (pic) -two big spiders above beds in the bedroom (pics) -internet breaking regularly

We chose to stay in Newport ahead of the SA vs Wales game in Cardiff. The accommodation was close to restaurants, coffee shops as well as both the train station and bus station. We caught the train to and from Cardiff. The accommodation was spacious for our family of four.

We arrived at our scheduled arrival time as had been communicated with the owners in advance. The cleaners had failed to arrive, and the apartment was not prepared or cleaned between guests. Although this was disappointing following our jetlag (flight from Calgary) and drive down from Heathrow, the owners responded quickly and rectified the circumstances.
