The location was a small village within easy reach of Cambridge to which we could travel without using the car. The rooms were spacious and warm and unlike many a place we've stayed there was comfortable seating for two people.

We feel it was let down by the following small details: 1) The floor could have done with a more thorough clean 2) One of the headboards was broken 3) Two bedside lamps were provided but only one could be connected to a socket 4) Only two teabags were provided and zero pods for the Nespresso machine 5) The wall heater was intermittently noisy 6) The refrigerator is very small and emits a constant hum We would have been more forgiving had we known about these beforehand. Moreover we sent a text pointing out some of the above to a number provided in an email but no reply was received

"It was OK"

7.0

The room was neat and tidy. Great location for our needs. The bed was comfortable.

No milk to have a cup of tea, even though teabags and a kettle were provided, which was a little odd. It’s quite normal to at least have uht milk available and as billed as a ‘deluxe’ room, it would have seemed appropriate. The shower had no screen door, so the floor towel became soaking wet after a couple of showers. I requested a fresh towel for our second night, but got no response.

"This is a building site - be warned. Drains smell. Builders noisy. Light stops sleep."

1.0

Location is good for Bumps rowing races.

I stayed for one night. We specifically chose MJP due to the restaurant, and its location in Fen Ditton as we were visiting our daughter racing in Bumps. Only when we came to book the restaurant for dinner did we discover that it was closed for refurbishment. Not ideal to have not been told this in advance. When we arrived, (during a heatwave) – we discovered that the place is clearly a building site right now. When we got to our room, the bathroom really smelt of drains. We had to climb over piles of bricks to get to the room, there was nowhere outside to even sit. There was no fan in the room, and the windows hadn’t been opened – it was stiflingly hot. We were out for the afternoon/evening, and when we returned, opening the windows achieved very little given how long the room had been cooking in the heat and we got a really bad night’s sleep. It was made worse by the very bright green light emitting from the fire escape light above the doorway. This light is really bright – it really stops sleeping for those people that need to sleep in the dark. But the worst was in the morning, after a poor nights’ sleep we were woken at 7.52 a.m. to the sound of very noisy powertools (angle grinder/circular saw), the builders in full swing right outside our room, despite the window being open, and presumably they knew there were guests. There were builders right outside the window, issuing instructions/discussing the patio with one another. No regard that there were people in the rooms. Overnight, a cement mixer had been moved to the area right outside the room, which was whirring away, and we had to clamber past in order to get to our car. The car park was rammed full of builders vans, which had to be which had to be moved in order for us to be able to even get out of the car park. I did write to complain, however have not received a reply - almost a month later.

"Basic and I think comparatively expensive for what it was"

3.0

Poor communication/service. I called the contact number many times on my 2 hour drive up to the place, just to ask if it would be possible to get an earlier check in than 4pm (quite a late check in?) as it was going to be 30 degrees that day and I was arriving at about 11am. Ansaphone every time. Nobody on site apart from lots of builders. Messaged to ask again about check in as my last message had been a few days earlier and said “we’ll be in touch nearer the time”. No reply until about 3pm - automated message advising me of the key box code - for 4pm. Surprised that although there was a small fridge in the room there was absolutely nothing in it. Would have expected a small bottle of water - there are no shops at all in the village to buy anything from. Got another couple of messages the next day telling me how they were looking forward to giving me a good review which I found quite odd (and annoying), and reminding me to recycle any rubbish.

"Cosy and well-located, with an excellent restaurant on site"

8.0

The room itself was lovely and cosy - perfect for a weekend break for 2. The restaurant on site is incredible and well worth the asking price. The location is very nice too - quiet but still not too far to walk into Cambridge. Overall, this was great value for money and I'd recommend it.

Minor issue, but communication could have been a bit better - we didn't get check-in instructions until after we'd arrived so were hanging around outside in the cold for a bit. Some info about the local area also just seemed wrong once we were there.
