The Harbour House, dorm and twin, selfservice hostel

An OK hostel 3km from the village of Ballstad, not so convenient for the supermarket but very close to the start of the footpath to hike up Skottinden. No inside space to store a bicycle. The twin rooms are rather small, OK for sleeping but there's nowhere to put rucksacks or panniers. There was a wardrobe but the room is so small that it's difficult to get into this and it takes up all the space where you could otherwise put a rucksack - it would be better to remove the wardrobes and put lots of hooks on the walls as there is nowhere to hang wet gear (apart from inside the wardrobe!). The dorm actually looked more spacious. There was only one bathroom, one small kitchen and one small dining table between potentially 10 people (fortunately there were only 5 people staying in our annex at the time) - it would be rather crowded if full. There were only two pans in the kitchen and only two large plates - not particularly well equipped. The underfloor heating in the bathroom was good and the wi-fi worked.

In general everything was good

Very good value for money, great location, friendly staff, great parking available.

We got the twin room and upon arrival we saw that the room is right under the stairs, which is very frequently used and thus noisy (even in the evenings and mornings). Kitchen and bathroom could use some cleaning (we did see that staff cleaned fairly often, so maybe that’s more on the people currently staying there). This might just be personal opinion, but one bathroom is hardly enough for 10 people and can create uncomfortable situations.

Lovely double bed room with a shared living space and bathroom. A very nice kitchen to use. By the water with harbour view, calm and restful. Everything clean and well maintained.
