"Excellent location, disappointing condition, below our expectations."

6.0

The cottage has an excellent location for activities around Porthmadog, especially the stunning Snowdonia National Park, which is truly beautiful and an absolute must-visit. In the garden, there is a table and seating with a breathtaking view of the sea and the ever-changing sandbanks, depending on the tide.

Unfortunately, the house was not properly cleaned and had an unpleasant smell when we first entered. The fridge was dirty, one vegetable drawer had mold, and the oven had not been wiped inside. The bathroom tiles around the showers had noticeable black stains, the washing machine’s rubber seal was clearly never cleaned (black, stained, and smelly), and one bathroom tap felt like it could break off when turning it off properly. In one shower, the water did not drain properly, so you were standing in water while showering. Considering the price, this was disappointing – we have stayed in over 50 holiday homes before, and this condition was below expectations for this price range. We reported the issues immediately; the owner was as shocked as we were and arranged for the cleaning team to come. They did come, but since we were out at the time, we missed them — which did not bother us anymore, as we had already cleaned everything ourselves as well as we could and had little confidence in their abilities; otherwise, the house would not have been in such a condition. The heating unit, located just 30 cm from the kitchen counter where food is prepared, also urgently needs cleaning. No compensation was offered for the inconvenience. In addition, we would strongly recommend providing at least one large cooking pot, as two small pots are insufficient for a family of four, and the scratched Teflon pot should be replaced since damaged non-stick cookware is unhealthy. Unfortunately, I can only attach four photos, and unfortunately the owner never asked for them. The layout of the house is great, but it is clearly in need of maintenance. We would strongly recommend either addressing these problems or significantly lowering the price. The location, however, is truly fantastic.

Had the best time staying at this wonderful home! The views are fabulous over the bay of Porthmadog. Thanks to the hosts for all the sound advice on getting around wales. I would highly recommend it if you want a chilled, relaxed few days in the Welsh countryside!

Never stayed long enough.
