North View Cottage next to Hadrian's Wall

We liked everything and couldn’t have asked for more This is such a good cottage; fabulous location and central for many of the highlights in the county. Highly recommend to anyone.

The cleanliness and comfort of the cottage was really good with furnishings of a high standard. We slept really well in the king size bed. It was very easy to prepare meals and a bonus to have Sky TV! The location for the wall and Roman forts etc is superb.

Not the owners fault, but the patchy of phone signal in the village made the cottage a bit tricky to find ( with sat nav not working) , so maybe some details could be supplied when booking is paid for?

Location perfect for Hadrians Wall and walks around the area. Close to many sites of interest. The property had everything we needed and more, could easily spend a week or two here comfortably. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable. Would be delighted to stay here again. Perfect

It's on Hadrian's Wall path and you can collect keys any time from the box next to the door. I arrived very late and the host was helpful.

The property was modern and perfect for a self-catering stay, including dishwasher and washing machine, heated towel rail in bathroom. It was lovely looking out onto the sloping fields when watching TV. The privacy screening on the front, back doors and bedroom windows was great, allowing light in. Local people are very friendly and happy to chat and offer advice and guidance on finding local historic places of interest such as the spa well and popping stones (located behind the empty Gilsland Spa hotel), RAF Spadeadam and the vast array of walks and hidden sights on Hadrian's Wall.

The cottage was not as rural as expected, it was overlooked by North View House and down a lane with a number of other properties and was in close proximity to the train line and could hear the train beeping when passing through at various times throughout the day. (Gilsland station is closed). If the weather is warm enough to use the terrace in the back garden it could do with some more privacy screening between North View House and we found the wooden steps a little steep and slippy from the apple tree. This is a matter of preference, the bedroom is very light from the early morning sunrise, although it does have blinds and curtains (without blackouts). We found that the most direct access to Hadrian's wall was via the side of North View House, rather than being directly from outside the cottage.

The place is amazing, small but so perfectly arranged that it feels very, very spacious. Very clean, beautifully decorated, it had everything you may need. Hosts provided a very detailed welcome book with all the info you may need and it is good to know (even first aid notes, which you will hopefully never need) It was a bit tricky to find the place at first as the village is small but got lots of streets, definitely follow the dropped pin from Booking.com and not google maps. Bonus the place got a car parking spot available, which is very handy. Great base to explore Hadrian's wall and surrounding area. Definitely would book this place again if in the area.

Really enjoyed our stay. Accommodation larger than expected. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Excellent location for exploring Hadrian's Wall in beautiful unspoilt countryside. Helpful hosts. We would definitely recommend.
