La Maison du Marin was a simple but charming stay during my two nights on Gorée Island (June 23–25). The rooms are modest, but spacious and very comfortable, with great air conditioning and a surprisingly cozy bed—perfect after long days of exploring. Breakfast each morning was solid and satisfying, with fresh local touches. What made the experience especially memorable was the warm hospitality of the owner, who was welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. The delicious home-crafted cocktails were an unexpected treat and added a special touch to the evenings. If you’re looking for a quiet, spot with genuine local charm, this is a great choice.

Wish there was access to a pool for the hot days but the beach is only a 10 minute walk.

Veronique ist eine super Gastgeberin. Das Hotel ist klein aber fein, mit viel Liebe fürs Detail. Alles sehr sauber. Leute sehr zuvorgekommen.

Very quiet. The Air conditioner kept me cool at night. During the day, it is preferred appliances not being used, are turned off or unplugged. There’s a ship anchored off the shoreline of the island. This ship provides necessary energy to the island. When you see it, it should flip a switch…pardon the pun.

Get there as early as you possibly can.

La Maison Du Marin was a lovely place ran by really helpful and kind owners. Upon arrival they gave us advice on finding nice restaurants on the island (as it was a holiday and a lot of places were closed) and also provided us with some information about living in Senegal. It was no problem that we checked in earlier than anticipated, and we were allowed to select a room of our choice (within our room rate). The bathroom gave hot water really quick and the breakfast was super tasty! Although our stay was just short, we really found the patio inside the premise really

One window lock was broken, which made it a little bit difficult to open the window in order to close the outside window shades during the night (to keep out the street lightning). Suggestion: Although we had a mosquito net hanging above our bed, it would be nice to have additional mosquito/insects frames by the windows. As during the night the temperature dropped and there was some wind on the island, it would be nice to open the windows for fresh air instead of turning on the AC.
