We stayed at this hotel on our way from Siwa to Cairo, arriving late in the evening and quite exhausted from the road. The owner greeted us, checked us into our room, and then immediately left, leaving us alone in the hotel with no one to contact during the night if we needed any help. The room was very cold. We had assumed we could warm it up using the air conditioner, but it only had a cooling function and no heating mode. The blankets provided were very thin and did nothing to keep us warm. We ended up trying to keep warm by huddling together, but I still woke up feeling sick from the cold. Another detail is that one of the beds had clearly been used before us. We found hair and slight signs that someone had lain there, though very neatly. We didn’t make a big deal of it because we’re used to various travel conditions, but it’s worth mentioning. The bigger issue was the cold and the fact that we had no way to fix the situation during the night. Also, about the shower: the hot water only lasted for one person. We know that can happen with a boiler, so we didn’t have any complaints about that specifically, but it did delay us and made the cold even more noticeable once we were done. In short, I find it unacceptable to rent out a place in winter that isn’t prepared for cold weather. In summer, this wouldn’t have been an issue at all, but in winter it’s a serious problem. I hope this review helps other travelers be cautious, and that the owners either equip the hotel properly or close it for the season.
