Black Cabin Getaway in Woods I Valpo

The property itself was wonderful.

The road leading to the property was in severe disrepair.

It was a quiet neighborhood and there was lots of wildlife. The host was very responsive and even had the road fixed quickly after we arrived to it being full of potholes. They were very friendly! All the amenities we needed were close by. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, and the microwave and dishwasher worked well. Check in and out was easy. Lots of places to sleep.

The dryer would not dry unless it was a very small load and ran many times. The house could have been cleaned better. It was a little rough around the edges. The yard had a lot of poison ivy (which I'm highly allergic to). The bed frame in the main room was incredibly loud if you moved. The water pressure was not great and the tub didn't drain well. Lots of ants inside for some reason. Also, be aware there are a good number of houses nearby despite the map showing there are none.

Absolutely loved it.

It was a cozy little cabin that was pretty well equipped with most things needed for our stay. The fenced yard was nice with a nice path down to the firepit and a lovely deck for eating and relaxing outside. The host was great at answering all my questions. They provided some fun little touches like sand toys that my kids enjoyed and lots of books and games inside. I also loved that it was lower in price than most surrounding options.

There were more neighboring houses around than I was expecting which was fine other than our first evening outside enjoying the fire we had one neighbor playing very loud music and a couple of the days there was a loud sound of something like a generator coming from somewhere nearby. The cabin also sits close to the gravel road. I was hoping to enjoy the bedroom with lots of windows but I never opened the curtains due to being right by the road. The bed in the main bedroom was very uncomfortable and very noisy to get in and out of. We loved having the washer and dryer to use but the dryer greatly struggled to dry the laundry. While the kitchen was mostly well equipped, we could not find a baking sheet or extra kitchen towels. Overall, the cabin was pretty clean but a good deep clean would be beneficial to bring it to a higher level of quality.

There was a lot of extra that we thought was nice: The little snacks on the table when we arrived, the doggy door, the books and games, all the different kind of sleeping pillows to chose from, and more. The owner made sure that we were enjoying the cabin and communicated with us throughout our stay. The fenced backyard was one of the reason why we chose this cabin and it was worth it. Our dogs enjoyed the space and being able to go potty without being on a leash.

For us, and it is a personnal choice, the beds were not that comfortable and felt a little shaky.
