Had to use taxis to get to York City centre as too far to walk with mother

I was disappointed with my stay at this apartment. The entire place had a strong smell of cigarette smoke, especially in the small bedroom (this even seeped into our clothes), which made it very uncomfortable to sleep in. This is sold as a non smoking apartment so shouldn’t have been the case. When I raised this with the agent all they said was it shouldn’t smell of smoke, but clearly someone must have been aware of the smell before we checked in because there were several plug in air fresheners switched on. The living room was also very cold, even with the heating on I struggled to keep the space warm. Additionally, there was no hot water on Saturday morning despite following all the instructions provided in the manual and contacting the agent on booking.com. The electrics in the living room were also questionable - there was a 3 way plug plugged into an extension cable plugged into a timer switch. Overall, the issues with the smell, temperature and lack of hot water made the stay far below expectations. I was also disappointed as up until we arrived at the property and asked about heating via booking.com the agent was very responsive, since reporting the issues they have not responded.
