Finest Retreats - Loxley House

We enjoyed our stay in Hawes. The house is in a good position. The views are splendid.

The building is not suitable for the number staying (14). There was enough seating in the lounge. Couches were dusty & doubt anyone had cleaned down sides of cushions in long time. Carpet & rug badly stained & looked filthy. Legs on 1 of tub chairs was loose & unstable. Couch cushions in need of clean. Dining room tables had obviously been used as B&B furnishing, chairs uncomfortable. Ones with plastic seating cover flaking. Kitchen was adequate but not to the standard one would expect from the rental charge made & 'classification' of a Luxury Retreat. Kettle leaked, dangerous when boiling water being poured. Bedrooms were generally adequate. There was a worn hole in a duvet cover. Dead flies found in the bath of Rm 2. One small rail for clothes in this room only. Twin beds not prepared as had been requested. This was attended to but not until late afternoon on arrival day. 2 broken slats on one bed in the twin room. TV in Rm 4 did not work. Garden a disgrace. BBQ found used & filthy. Grass mown left with rolls of dead grass on it. Could not be classed as a pleasant place to play or sit. Weeds & nettles covered all pathways/steps, making walkways dangerous when raining. Water poured from gutters over back black door when raining due to uncleaned gutter. Area outside kitchen door looked like it had not been attended to in long time & same applies to all outside area. The doorway from Rm 2 had a huge rambler rose covering it - very difficult to get & in and out plus this impeded the view. Reported state of garden on arrival, expecting perhaps a gardener may appear - was not the case. The week in Hawes was a celebration, we enjoyed our celebration but I am so so disappointed that our expected luxury retreat and the write up on booking sadly was far from the actual found. This is an expensive rental and really does not live up to the amount charged.

Brilliant location

Stayed last year Property has gone down hill since garden was a mess. Inside although clean no basic maintenance has been done Looks like property is ready for a full makeover Kitchen equipment was lacking No welcome pack like last year although the basket and welcome note where still there

Very overpriced . Check in time too late and check out time too early. ( Sunday morning 10.00am) Had to pay extra for earlier check in and later check out which was money grabbing . Good location . Overall well overpriced. Expected more for the money.

Excellent location, in a lovely Yorkshire Dales town. It's a great building that suited our needs very well. Rooms were well appointed and furnished. This was a good choice for a family holiday, and we'd definitely stay again.

Lacking internal staircase from ground floor. There were no lights in one of the interior bathrooms, and a corridor and no maintenance came out to resolve.

The location was fantastic. The kitchen was large, and whilst one of the appliances (dishwasher) didn’t work was decent.

There were a number of things that we were not happy with. - The cleanliness - this property needs a damn good clean. There was dust in numerous locations - tops of extractor, tops of fridge, skirting boards. At least 5 of the bathrooms had mould on sealant and grout. We had to get the cleaners back - the place just wasn’t clean. All of the windows were really dirty and full of fried on bird crap… which looked like it had been there for weeks. The exterior - the garden hasn’t been cut for at least 5 weeks, overgrown nettles everywhere, you certainly couldn’t sit out in the garden. The patio areas needed a good jet wash and clean and the same with the first floor balcony. - The upkeep of the house - as noted above - one of the dishwashers didn’t work and the top drawer in the one that did was loose. The second fridge had a mountain of ice backed up in it, which suggests to me it hadn’t been cleaned / deiced in months. There was no light working in bedroom 6. There were 2 lights out in the lower ground bedroom corridor- we had to use a torch for both ok actions at night. There weee certain rooms - mainly the passage, dining room, lower ground corridor / stairs area - that need some TLC and a general refresh. The lower ground floor - you got an immediate smell of damp / foist, when you entered through the front door. And then there was the exterior, as noted above. I rang and complained when we got there regarding the cleanliness of the house, 2 cleaners came out in the Tuesday and the Supervisor totally agreed with me. We also complained on the same call about the lighting not working (bathroom 6 and corridor lower ground) as well as the garden area not being cut or suitable. Nothing happened.

The property is well located in the centre of Hawes within reach of all village amenities. The views from the property are spectacular. We were a large group and were very comfortable. There was plenty of hot water, we were warm and the kitchen facilities were great for us to cater for ourselves.

We had some difficulty finding the key box as there are two but it was no problem in the end. In the property there are loads of keys and loads of doors, these could be better labeled. This minor frustration was more than compensated for by the rest of the property which is perfect for a large group.
