"Lovely Location and friendly people"

9.0

Y Giler Arms is one of those unexpected gems. Totally underrated, I think when it comes to location. I loved that it was close to all the things I wanted to explore (the LLyn Brening Osprey Hide and Snowdonia National Park in particular). The hotel itself is set back from the main road so it is very quiet, and my room had a view over a small pond (with its own grey heron) and the Welsh countryside. There is plenty of parking and a small campground out the back for those not wanting to stay inside the house. The hotel itself is made of two older cottages with some newer buildings added on. The single room was rather spacious (by single room standards), and only the bathroom was a tad small but worked for me (although it might be a bit tricky for some larger people as one has to slide under the sink onto the toilet ...lol). I had one evening meal there, and it was very tasty and staff/owners were super, super friendly, helpful and downright nice. Also, I loved listening to Welsh being spoken by the staff and local patrons (even though I do not understand it).

I really loved everything, but as a side note for people who may be a bit larger, the bathroom in the single room is a tad small.

I arrived a bit early as I'd cut short my ride due to the weather, the hotel was shut up tight with just a window cleaner around. He advised where the landlord was but it took about 20 minutes before he arrived and it was another ten before I got into the hotel. The room was small but OK with a tiny bathroom and a view out over fields and the lake. It's off the beaten track and in a pretty location. The bar area was OK, it was too cold to sit outside in a nice area overlooking the lake. Everything was a little run-down/unexciting. The food was OK at an OK price. Breakfast was extra but again was OK.

It would have been nice if the place was open when I got there and it was strange to effectively get locked out of the hotel area after having breakfast, you could only go outside. Breakfast had to be pre-ordered the night before rather than having a choice in the morning and there were no juices.

Newly appointed rooms are very nice and probably the cleanest room I've ever been in. Absolutely fantastic friendly staff

No breakfast! Though they did make me a sandwich the night before
