"Reallly good location on Koh Rong island but horribly thin walls."

6.0

The location is fantastic with walking distance to various well priced local restaurants (our favourites were Ah far Kitchen $3.50 a main and Cephon restaurant $3 a main). More touristy options are also available. Lonely beach is a 30-40 minute walk away. A bread man comes cycling to the accommodation every morning at around 9:00 to 9:30 and sells baguettes for 3,000 riel or doughnuts for 2,000 riel or cupcakes for 4,000 each. He also sells other types of bread but we didn’t buy them. The kayak is free to use to either go through the mangroves or to the sea. There is just the one so you may have to wait if other customers are using it (first come first serve) but we didn’t have a problem. The en-suite rooms have shower systems with cold water so you don’t need to have a bucket shower. It’s very good value for money and the staff are very friendly.

With the en-suite rooms, the walls between the rooms are thin wooden walls so you can hear literally everything that happens next door. Our neighbours snored which really dampened the quality of our sleep. You also share your terrace with your neighbours so enjoyment levels with depend on what they are like! There are no signs to the homestay letting you know you’ve arrived. The accommodation is split between two locations with the shared bathroom rooms on one side of the river and the en-suite rooms on the other side. We stayed in an en-suite but the drinking water and kitchen are on the other side of the river (around a 5 minute walk), maybe move one of the drinking waters to the side with the en-suites? The kitchen is a single gas hob on a table with an eclectic mix of saucepans and cutlery. It was fine for boiling water but I wouldn’t cook anything more advanced than boiled eggs or ramen noodles there!

Such a great experience surrounded by locals in a fishing village in the corner of the island, easily accessible by tuktuk, free kayak to rent and explore the mangroves plus bike rental available. There are a few good local eateries nearbye plus western food if you need it, there is also a redident otter which you will probably see running around in the morning, Johnny is very helpful

Locals like their karaoke very loud and the walls aren’t exactly soundproof but it didn’t go on very late

"Nice place but difficult communication with the owner"

5.0

The position of the bungalow is nice. The place is quiet and beautiful. You can watch birds from there.

The communication with the owner was difficult and not supportive. He seemed to be not interested as I stayed only for one night. When I followed google.maps and arrived at the place he was not there (even though I had sent the message before) but two women who told me to go to a building on the other side of the river. When I arrived at the other side it was the volunteers' place and when I called him he told to go back to the place I had been before. Then the room was locked so I had to call again and wait until a woman came with the key. Then there was no mosquito net in the room (even though shown on the picture) so I had to call and wait again. Also, be aware that you can get drinking water there only from the shop at the entrance of the place.

"Good if you don’t want to sleep"

7.0

Amazing place, good bed, free loan of kayaks, local people are really nice

Super super loud. Don’t come if you wish to sleep, we barely got any sleep in 3 nights even with earplugs because of the neighbours begin soooo loud watching show at 3am or snoring. The local village had a one-man karaoke until almost midnight which was unsafely loud and gave us a headache, then at 7am they fill up the water bassins which makes some noises and a guy on a scooter comes honking and yelling to sell pastries at 8am and of course still the neighbours speaking super loud in the early morning when you didn’t even sleep all night because of them.

Everything! The location is beautiful and our host, Johney, did so much for us, above and beyond. We loved our simple, little Bungalow over the water in a local fishing village. We really felt part of the community where and Johney has set up several programs where we could give back directly. These include sponsoring children at the local school by buying their school equipment and bag (which they get to choose themselves) plus a sack of rice for their families. We were able to enjoy the whole island with the motorbike we borrowed and also made several trips to Lonely Beach, including a snorkeling trip out to a small island on a local fishing boat. We also had free use of kayaks to explore the river. We loved our stay so much that we kept extending!

"A paradise on earth"

10.0

We had such a wonderful time in this bungalow. The connection with the nature is amazing because, literally, you’re inside the mangrove. Our favorite thing was kayaking, we explored the mangrove and finished in the sea. In summary, this place is pure magic.
