I had a lovely stay at Dondie’s House in Portuairk. The views were absolutely stunning, and the electric heaters were beyond compare, they kept the place warm and cosy throughout. The double glazing was excellent, making the house feel snug even in cooler weather. There’s a shortcut to the village, which is handy, though it can be slippery and muddy, so do take care, it’s passable but not ideal in wet conditions. The kitchen facilities were adequate, but for the price, a dishwasher would be a welcome addition. Many similarly priced accommodations offer one, and it would make a big difference, especially for longer stays. The shower room was great, though it could benefit from more shelving for toiletries, space was a bit tight. Unfortunately, I experienced a lack of hot water by the second day, which was disappointing. The owner was quick to respond, but it sounded like a tricky fix, so I opted to use the kettle for washing up. Thankfully, the electric shower was unaffected. One final note: if you drive a low car with a front splitter, be cautious when accessing the property. The entrance/exit is very steep, and I had to be extremely careful to avoid scraping the underside of the car. Overall, a beautiful location and a comfortable stay, with a few areas that could be improved to match the price point.

"A lovely little haven in a peaceful paradise."

10.0

The location was perfect for us. We just wanted to be far away from everything, and it met our expectations perfectly. My partner is still suffering withdrawal symptoms from the friendly pig next door that befriended her! 😂 The nearby beaches were stunning, and perfect for a spot of paddleboarding. Can’t fault the accommodation in any way … it was like a little haven after a hard day’s walking along the coast. I would recommend just sitting in the garden seats watching the various sunsets … no two evenings are the same!

Nothing to complain about. We had one day of rain, so visited the local distillery!
