El Castillo en el Lago Atitlán

The property is located in a beautiful place right in front of the lake! We have access to the kayaks of the property which is amazing. The house has a lot of light and the staff is super nice! Isaac is very welcoming and helpful!

The only downside is the hill you have to go up everytime you want to go to the center. It would be much better to have an agreement with the reserve so you can pass through there. And at the reserve we were told that you only have to make a request and then let them know everytime you have guests. That would have been amazing in terms of mobility.

The house , the views were great. I just wish they had fan for the rooms because it was very hot. Opening windows is not a choice or you'll have bugs in the house.

It was hot

Beautiful location. The guardians were so kind and helpful.

Difficult to access. Did not provide essentials such as napkins. The owner was difficult to communicate with. Very dirty and sadly the house seemed to have been in a state of disrepair. Hot tub did not work well. Construction happening on all sides of the house.

Once at the house, the locations is awesome, right on the water with amazing views of the lake. We liked how it was quiet at night being just a just short walk outside of the "downtown" but very close (5-10 minute walk) to everything in San Marcos. The property was spacious, the house was well stocked with kitchen gear, and having the kayaks available was nice, as was the filtered water. Great views in the evening from the deck, and the upper balconies were a great place to read or catch some sun. We also appreciated the extra towels for use at the lake.

The house could use a bit of upgrades/renovations - some of the furniture was old, lots of spiderwebs etc up high, several lights were not working, a few broken panes of glass, etc. It would have been nice to have a 2nd key or keyless access. `There were lots of ants inside, plus some larger spiders and we even had two scorpions in our bedroom one night! The hot tub was cold on day 1, and only lukewarm on days 2/3/4. The back door (up to 3rd bedroom) could use a deadbolt as it would be an easy place for someone to break in. While not an issue for our group, those traveling with children would appreciate a handrail on the dock stairs. We were also fine with the VERY steep walk from the house up to the street but I could see that being a challenge for some guests - not the easiest access for guests with bad kees/hips, small children, as the walk in and out is tough! Not a place to bring wheeled luggage!!

You can't find a better house in San Marcos, so if a house on the water is what you're looking for, look no further! To sit out by the lake in the hot tub enjoying the volcano views and stars above is a magical experience this house gifts you night after night. It has an incredible view, easy access to the park hiking trail, lake access out the front door, and tasteful home decor. The hike to town is easy if you walk through the trail (costs about $2.50) or you can walk up the steep road-ish stair case-ish path which is a steep scene but only takes about 3 minutes and is a great way to steal some fitness on vacation! The house had everything we needed in the kitchen, potable water provided, and plenty of towels. There is a security guy who stays in a little house next store and he was super helpful with anything we needed. It was a wonderful stay.

Overall this place was not as clean as I would have liked. The balcony wasn't cleaned off so there were lots of old leaves and it was not an inviting place to spend time. The inside of the house was pretty good, but not clean like you would have at a hotel. Sharing for expectation management, but would not let that stop you from staying here!

Right by the lake, the only problem was to go up to get to the center with restaurants and cafés. Knowing this in advance since our guests were a little older The views from basically all rooms were breath taking. There are two major rooms and another one upstairs that's basic but in total all rooms can fit 8 people I'd say. Great for a group of family or friends

The jacuzzi wasn't very clean nor hot. You cannot park the car right in front of the house, you park it in a parking lot and have to grab your belongings to get to the house on a boat.

Spacious and plenty of room for the 3 of us. Location provides great views of volcano, along with the villages of San Juan and San Pedro. Always a welcome oasis to return to this retreat home after a day out exploring. We would find a different place to enjoy on the property. Very well taken care of and has everything you need.

The climb down and climb up! Wow!!And we consider ourselves in excellent physical shape! Thankfully we had help with our luggage.
