The Gordon House Hotel - Near Gateway Of India

This hotels biggest pro is the location - just around the corner from iconic Cafe Mondegar, and three minutes walk to Gateway of India. We also loved the suite, where we have stayed every time in this hotel. Gorgeous rooms and a magnificent bathroom.

But there are some major issues with staying at this hotel. If you are an early riser, be aware that you will probably not get any sleep before the nightclub on the first floor closes at 01 in the morning. The bass rumbles through the entire building where you almost vibrate in the bed. If not, the pigeons in the ventilation ducts will wake you up. The wifi network also comes and goes, but that`s India for you. And the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. The breakfast plate are supposed to be eggs, toast, hash browns, beans and bacon, but you are lucky if you get four of these five items - this morning I got three out of five. Only one type of juice - water melon - or you have to settle for water. The breakfast should be until 10, but if you arrive after 9.30, there is probably not much left.

No sleep for three nights - SUPER LOUD CLUB downstairs that shakes the hotel. We complained and were moved to another room which initially seemed quiet, until the base was turned up and we were back to square one. Reception staff were kind but it seems that it’s an ongoing management decision to keep the sound loud and bass high. Impossible to sleep. Horrible start to our holiday.

VERY ICONIC LOCATION AND IS VERY CLOSE TO GATE WAY OF INDIA AND TAJ PALACE HOTEL. BREAK FAST IS GOOD, ROOM IS VERY CLEAR AND TIDY AND ALSO SPACIOUS. GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY.

BREAKFAST SPREAD COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. PEOPLE IN THE FRONT DESK AND BE LITTLE MORE GREETING AND ADD VALUE TO RECEPTION. PERHAPS GOOD TRAINING IS LACKING.

we have stayed here several times and the higher quality rooms are very good for the star rating of the hotel. clean, bright, well lite.

Location, staff

The hotel is smacked in a lovely area of Colaba, minutes away from the Gateaway of India and the Colaba market. Within 10 minutes walk you can be in Khala Godha. If you like to walk around you won’t need to take taxis for most of your stay. The room was cosy and quiet. There was plenty of storage space. As requested, my brother and I had 2 comfortable twin size beds. The hotel is secured nicely. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and did our room every day. One evening we had dinner at the ground floor restaurant and it was lovely (Chinese stir fry style, a bit pricey but large portions and tasty food) I didn’t have their breakfast but my brother did and thought it was fine. The room was bright and very welcoming, I will definitely stay here again and I will recommend it.

Some sockets weren’t working, the bathroom was a tiny bit too small but still very nice.

Great location for me. I was a solo traveler and wanted to be able to walk to places without having to get a taxi.

No English language TV that I could find. Restaurant was good but pretty expensive for India.

The staff is very helpful, they take cleaning seriously, the location is perfect very close to Gateway of India, Shivaji Museum, if you like to walk you can take a walk to Marine drive as the route is very pretty.
