Seraph House, York

The house has character and is close to the train station and bus stop (you do have to cross a bridge with steep stairs, though). The neighborhood is nice. The TV has Netflix.

The beds were just really uncomfortable. As I have read in the previous reviews of the last year or so, they have been uncomfortable for a while and the owner hasn't changed it. The double bed has a dent in the middle, the two single beds are incredibly squeaky, and the pull out is just hard and uncomfortable. The floor in the dining room has a carpet which is just dirty. Also, the chairs aren't really comfy. What was annoying is that the kitchen was not well outfitted at all. There are not enough plates, glasses, etc for everyone (only one wine glass, two water glasses, etc). There are no oven plates. The pan handles are loose. There's no scissors. The most negative point of this apartment is the cleanliness of the kitchen: the kitchen cabinets were dirty on the inside and the handles were sticky, not to mention the cooker hood.

My experience was not good at all.

I'll reserve the right to experience it, but if you want to go and see for yourself that the facilities aren't what they seem, that's your choice.

Great location, rooms were big enough, comfortable beds, very clean, enclosed back yard. Ideal for city and racecourse.

Not sure oven worked properly as pizzas took ages to cook. Bistro set/table and chairs in the back yard would have been handy when sitting outside.

Great location just outside the city, great shower. Communication with owner fantastic. Main bedroom was beautiful, there was everything you need in the house

sofa bed very uncomfortable and like other reviewers have said a comfy sofa to sit on would make it perfect but we would definitely stay there again.

Beds.....on all reviews saying the same so really should sort them out The double bed had a huge dip The single beds were so noisy and on the floor Futon so uncomfortable and useless as a sofa with only seating for 3 in the room so not easy to socialise Bathroom needs attention under the boiler Such a shame these easily fixed things let it down

It was clean, equipped with everything we needed, and the shower was nice.

The double bed has a huge dip in the middle, which is not a problem if there’s just one in the bed, but would be uncomfortable with 2. The single beds are futons on the floorboards and are very creaky whenever you move

Very close to town and amenities enjoyed our stay but could do with a few changes as listed below ok if your mobilaty is good owner was quick to reply and agreed to Ower needs ie early check in

Single beds to low and uncomfortable woke up with a bad back every morning double bed ok but still uncomfortable no carpets so very echoe stairs slippy sofa in tv room to low and uncomfortable no tin opener or microwave it allows pets so cheap carpets would do update also no tray in oven for someone with limited mobility not recommended

It was clean and had everything we needed maybe not enough lol rolls

It needed carpets, we got splinters in feet and the floors were cold and you house echoed

Charming older property which has been nicely renovated, in a quiet area very close to the train station and easily walkable. A lovely bathroom with claw foot slipper bath and some other antique furniture such as an old settle which were utterly delightful. Easily accommodated our family of 5 for two nights and price was very reasonable.

Fitout is a bit minimalistic, the property could really do with a few throw blankets and cushions to make it feel more homey. Foldout bed in the lounge is a bit hard to handle and once it is set up, it's hard to put back together so we just left it out the entire time, which meant there was no real lounge room to use for the family to gather in. In any case the room had one armchair and the two seater sofa bed and no coffee table so it would not have accommodated us all anyway. Very steep stairs which might not suit everyone but perfectly understandable considering the age of the home. Two very low beds in the second bedroom which are comfortable enough for a night or two but quite hard and creaky so not really suited to a long stay. The kitchen was reasonably well appointed but there were some metal filings floating about in the cordless kettle so we could not use that at all, which was disappointing. If you do walk to the property, be prepared for a steep flight or two of stairs as you have to cross the railway lines via an overpass, so not ideal if you have heavy suitcases or mobility issues.
