The Well House Galle Sri Lanka

We spent five nights at The Well House as a family of seven and loved every moment. The villa feels like a private tropical estate - beautifully green, spacious and peaceful, with a refined colonial touch. It offers several separate bedrooms and a large pool. It’s perfect for families or groups of friends who value privacy. What really made our stay special was the staff. They were kind, attentive and yet almost invisible. Towels appeared before we could ask, mosquito coils were lit the moment we sat outside, and every meal was cooked exactly how we liked it. They even arranged fresh seafood from local fishermen and surprised my brother with a birthday cake. The location is only a few minutes by tuk-tuk or 15 mins walk to Dewata Beach and central Unawatuna. It’s quiet, safe, and ideal for families or small groups seeking a place that feels both luxurious and truly homely.

Nothing major. The property is large, so sometimes you have to walk a bit between rooms, but that’s part of its charm and for us was only a plus.

Het is een fantastische plek, mooi 250 jaar oud koloniaal (Nederlands) gebouwd huis helemaal voor jezelf met een lekker schoon zwembad. Wat wij het leukst vonden waren de 3 gastheren die ons de hele week in de watten gelegd hebben. De kok maakte elke dag een heerlijk vers ontbijt naar wens (voor ons op verzoek engels). Het dinner was elke dag een culinair hoogstandje, de kok was echt heel goed en had duidelijk plezier in zijn kookkunsten voor ons. Elke dag werd de kamer opgeruimd en de bedden opgemaakt. De gastheer die dat deed maakte elke dag een andere creatie van handdoeken op het bed. Taxi's tuk tuk's en dagjes uit werden allemaal door de heren naar wens geregeld. Ook werden boodschappen voor ons gedaan, gewoon je lijstje doorgeven en de boodschappen stonden even later in de koelkast.

De vloer in de veranda is wat glad als het nat is, hier moet je even rekening mee houden. De strandopgang is wat verder weg en niet makkelijk bereikbaar. De douche was niet heel warm, maar het was 30 graden buiten...

A cute villa perfectly located within minutes from the Bonavista beach in Unwatuna and a few kilometres from the Galle Fort. The food and service was good and the place was almost like home. We enjoyed our holiday which was a double birthday celebration and staff were very accommodating of the varying needs of our group , some of whom were very senior as well as the kid.

However some basic conveniences have been overlooked which can be looked into ..No towel racks in the bathrooms and no shelves to keep things. One room in the outhouse had no racks to store suitcases and we had to ask for tables..Small things I will admit but it is the details that make a guest feel welcome. There was also a misunderstanding on payment modes and what was acceptable as proof of payment which really did put a bad taste in the mouth at the end of the holiday. It is better to pay in advance of your stay and have all things properly documented since there is much confusion within the team on what works well for them .

Location

Gorgeous property, pool and gardens with excellent staff and lovely food, couldn’t do enough to cater for the family and we loved it, thank you. Kids loved playing in the pool and gardens.

The bedrooms are all very separate and not connected. There are 2 which are connected in a different building the other side of the garden and the other 2 which are attached to opposite sides of the house are far away from each other (need to walk outside to get between them all.) Wasn’t an ideal lay out for us having 2 young kids who would have preferred a separate room.

Location, Spacious, Nature

Excellent Staff! 4 man team (including gardener) looked after us very well. Very good food. Chef was able to prepare meals as per our taste. Good location close to Galle city and Una town and beach. Comfortable rooms with AC. Lovely property with nice pool and gardens with a sea breeze.

The water pressure in bathrooms was useable but could have been better. Food costs were slightly on higher side. 'Open plan' bathroom 2 of the bedrooms were unnecessary. A door or partitions would have been much better. Wifi works, but can be patchy at some places on the property,
