Casa Melina e enzo

The place is very well located, the flat is spacious and quiet, it was super clean. The beds are very comfortable. Melina and Enzo are so welcoming, we felt like family. They even invited us to share their meal with us on the evening we arrived.

The kitchen and the bathroom need a makeover, which is very likely the reason of the cheap price for the area.

1. The property is literally at 5 minutes walking distance from the beach from which (when the sky is clear) on your left you can see the Etna. 2. Catania Airport and Catania City are at circa 20 minutes from the B&B. You can take the bus (SCIONTI) from Augusta that will stop under the viaduct (10 min. walk from the B&B) when you wave at the driver (fermata a richiesta = stop on request). That will only cost you € 3,20. In Catania it will stop at Piazza Borsellino (now called Piazza Alcalà) and that is also the place where you can take the bus back to Agnone Bagni. You ask the driver again to stop under the viaduct. 3. The guest bedrooms (on the first floor) are spacious and light and have more than enough closets for your stuff. And they have airco. 4. All rooms (bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living room) are tidy and clean. 5. On top of the building there is a huge roof terrace from which you have a beautiful view over the village an on the Etna in the distance. 6. The shower has a powerfull, full jet and the water is warm. 7. There is hair dryer (very powerfull) in the bathroom. But you need an adapter to plug it in for the plug doesn't fit the Italian sockets. 8. I was there in september, just after the summer period so the summer village in which the B&B is located was almost abandoned, apart from the owners (husband and wife) who live on the ground floor and some neighbours. I liked that very much because there was no noise from people and cars and stuff. You only heard the birds in the morning and sometimes one of the neighbour dogs. Also the beach was very quiet this period. During the summer season it is probably much much crowdier. 9. Both owners live downstairs. They are friendly and available if you need them for anything. They do not interfere with you without asking. For anyone who wishes to be close at the sea and not too far from Catania and who doesn't care about the looks of the place this is a nice place to stay.

1. The owners just recently bought the house and are still fixing it. So from the outside it still looks a bit shabby. But they are working on that, they told me. 2. For financial reasons they left the very oldfashioned interior the way it is for now so if you find a modern feel important this is not the place for you. 3. In the bathroom there is only one very small plastic shelf on the wall for your stuff and it was hanging diagonally (coz poorly attached) while the bathroom has more than enough space to put more shelves or cabinets. I took some plastic stools from the balcony on which I put my stuff. 4. The kitchen is the old kitchen from the previous (elderly?) owners. Cabinets are hanging crooked and the fridge is rusty (outside and inside). But everything works: washing machine, gas and fridge. I did miss some basic kitchen tools. In an Italian kitchen you'd expect a moka (the typical Italian coffee maker) but there was nothing whatsoever for making coffee. Also the pans are old and many lids do not have a handle anymore. There is not much cutlery and there is only one cutting board. So also in this department there is room for improvement. The owners took notice and told me they would work on it. I found ways to deal with it. And Melina gave me a moka when I asked her. 5. Since the B&B is located in a sort of summer village (where people have second houses) during the summer season there is one small super market and one pizzeria open. When I was there both were closed. If you do not have a (rental) car you then have a problem. The nearest town where you can go grocery shopping or have diner is Lentini (13 km). The owners were so kind to take me to Lentini so I got my groceries for the whole week and was covered. 6. Beware! After 19.30 there are no more busses going from the Airport. Taxi drivers will try to take advantage and ask 70 to 90 euro for the 15-20 min. drive to the B&B. Don't pay more than 30 euro!
