"Disappointing. No value for money. Apartment needs refurbishing"

As a family of 3 we've booked this accommodation because (1) of the location, (2) being a loft with a fan-tas-tic view, (3) the two bed-and bathrooms and : (4) the 9,6 score, although from outside Booking dotcom. What to do? The price we paid (ZAR 2000 per night) was our max for spending one night in any accommodation in Cape Town, which is also why we hesistated. But, because of aforementioned sentence and the clean photo's we saw (with lovely living area with carpet, pillows, atmosphere) we booked and said "it will be worth it". It is family-ownership and Carlee, member of the family lives nearby. She was helpful and easy and reliable to communicate with. On arrival it was a nice surprise that it had a large, private, covered garage for our car. The building has security 24/7. The appartment is on the top-floor with no balcony above us. Efficient check-out by using a key locker hanging next to the entrance-door.

I tried, but could not really enjoy view nor accommodation. It's an old building (wild guess: 70's last century?) and also old IN the appartment. Before going into detail. Not only around but also through the (partly open) building there's a lot of howling wind. Pigeons fly, stay and pooh in the building. And, in Western Europe, I don't think it's allowed (safety-wise) to have such low barriers on such height, where it's quite easy to fall. But the most important : except for bedlinnen, quickly cleaned kitchen and a vacumed floor, everything looks and feels old, sticky, dirty. Bathroom-kit (silicone) is more black and molded than white or clean. Greasy doorhandles. Lots of damages on (cheap board-made) bathroom- & clothes-cupboards and doors. Loose toilet-seat. Wear and tear everywhere. Kitchen ceiling is stained yellow. Blinds are not working properly. Airconditioning used to be there but the aged, broken unit can be found useless in the garage. My resume: the quality of original interior-investment wasn't high and it has been in use for decades without renewing anything fixed. Which might even be ok, but it's not an excuse to not properly clean handles, (bathroom-)doors, etc. Have new white silicone sealant placed in showers once a decade for instance. Or have proper window cleaning. The windows are all dirty: the small round ones + the higher ones (where a person on the balcony can not reach) especially. As if they haven't been touched in a year, at seaside. As pictures tell a thousands words I've taken a few, but I can not add them unfortunately. So therefore this extended, more descriptive review. Price is not in accordance with the quality or cleanliness so I do not recommend. Recommendation for owners: invest some earnings in refurbishing and more attention on proper cleaning.
