"Since the hotel management told us they had no running water at that time, I refused to stay there ."

The location was difficult to maneuver due to old narrow streets laid out in a confusing pattern.f

From our experience and information from some local inhabitants, it was apparent everyday maintenance was lacking.

This is a historic property. It was quaint, quiet, and clean. We were made to feel very welcome. It was so fun to walk around and see all the homes and amenities in the Chautauqua Institute.

I think the “hotel and spa” is more than misleading. There is no spa on premise. It’s more like an old bed and breakfast. Room was not ready when promised and we were the only two guests both nights. Friendly staff and decent breakfast otherwise not so good.

This was a charming property on the Chautauqua Institute grounds. It was extremely convenient and the staff went out of their way to make sure guests were comfortable and well cared for.

The Spencer Hotel is a unique gem in a quaint lake community. I stayed 2 days and met the wonderful owners. My king sized bed was comfy and my bathroom was handpainted with forest scenery. Every room was themed in its own literary cultural way. Breakfast was homemade and delicious vs the continental food that most hotel chains would feed you. If attending an event at the Chautauqua Amphitheater, it was right outside the main front door. Short walk to the lake and beach area to watch the boats and let kids play. Thank you for this experience.

"Horrible-don’t waste your money."

2.0

Terrible. Room had spiders and spider webs, stained comforter, stained sink, soap scum, sink was from 1940’s, tv didn’t work. No privacy- window in door, could hear everything in next room. Told proprietor, no apology, no adjustments. Cleaned the room and there was still a spider hanging from web over shower. Coffee was cold, only creamer was almond milk. A complete rip-off.

We REALLY wanted to love this historic, charming, quirky property located ideally inside the magnificent Chautauqua Institution. LeAnn clearly goes above and beyond to ensure all guests enjoy a delightful stay. But far too much falls on her shoulders. Guests willing to tolerate claustrophobic rooms and some of the "vintage character" that characterizes Chautauqua will probably be charmed, but anyone expecting a Marriott-like experience should look elsewhere. I do hope this wonderful place gets the infusion of resources it so clearly needs, as the owners have clearly devoted ample love and hard work over the years. We wish them and LeAnn all the best!

The owner and staff were lovely and friendly. I was disappointed in our room. The photos if the room seemed much larger than the actual room. I always make sure when I book a room that it has a private bathroom. The room had a room with a toilet and sink. The bathtub was in the actual room. About 3 feet from the bed. It had a wooden accordion door for privacy. Not very private. When we took a shower apparently you needed to sit in the bathtub. I am disabled and cannot sit like that. It had a hose spray and the water would go all over the floor. I had to wipe it up each time. I also found the Inn to be very dark with lighting. I am visually handicapped and struggled a bit. The Inn had a quaint quality. I am sure it fits the Chautauqua feel. I should have checked into the details for myself a bit better. I probably would not stay again. I also felt what we ended up with did not match the cost of the weekend. The owner and the woman at the desk were wonderful.
