Dunard - Charming three bedroom cottage in Bigton

Kleinigkeiten! Eine Terrasse oder ein Bänkchen vor dem Haus wäre schön gewesen. Auch könnte der „Host“ mehr in Erscheinung treten. Etwas mehr Ablagefläche im Bad wäre gut. Auf Anfragen/Probleme wurde aber schnell reagiert.

We didn't get any information about how to access the property, I don't have a booking.com app, and all communications were sent to the app, which we don't have. We were expecting to be met by the host at the property, but when we got there no one was their to greet us. We had to phone the host who said that keys were in a key box and that we had been sent the details, which we hadn't, not everyone uses or downloads apps. Eventually we managed to access the property.

We were very upset at the cleanliness of the property, we cooked a meal that first evening, but ate it cold, as we had to wash all the cutlery, everything was covered in food, it was disgusting. My husband later that evening spent a couple of hours washing all the cutlery and the cutlery tray, all the pots and pans, plates and bowels we were planning on using during our stay. We didn't wash things we weren't planning on using. We paid a cleaning fee, but we think the cleaner should be sacked, they didn't make sure dishes, cooking utensiles, pots and pans, cups and glassses. The bedding on my bed was blood stained, the sheets looked dirty, the towels looked dirty and unwashed. The pillows were smelly, we swaped the blood stained dovet with one in the spare room, as well as 2 of the pillows. Bedding was scratchy, poor quality, not clean, not cotton, and very uncomfortable to sleep in. I do not believe that the bedding, sheets or towels had been washed before our stay. I was so uncomfortable staying here that I slept on top of the duvet, as I couldn't cope with the sleeping on the dirty yellowing sheets, the mattress was smelly, the pillows were smelly. I found sleeping at the cottage extremely stressful and didn't sleep well during our 7 night stay. The plastic table cloth was disgustingly dirty, and we had to clean that too, it looked clean, buty take a white cloth too it and it was evident it had not been cleaned either. The door handles were difficult for the women in our party to open, I developed a blister on my hand trying to open the bathroom door, my daughter and I both got stuck and locked in the bathroom being unable to open the door. Luckily our husbands came to the rescue. My husband said the joinary in the property was done to a very poor standard. My daughter wanted a bath, but because the bath was dirty too, she had a shower instead. Like other reviewers have said, the property smelt of mould!

Location was superb, plenty of kitchen utensils, warm and cosy. Very comfy.

Could have an en suite. Inside door handles stiff to turn. Everything else was top quality.

The view is amazing. The cottage is clean and quiet, perfect for a quiet getaway and as a base to explore the South Mainland including Jarlshof, Sumburgh, Mousa, Fitful Head, Quendale Mill, Scousborough Sands, Spiggie Loch RSPB Reserve.

Would be nice if there was a way to turn off the lights outside the house at night in order to enjoy the (rare) total darkness in Shetland.

Location was stunning. Easy to find and good base for everything.

We liked pretty much everything. We had almost everything we needed and the mattresses in the bedrooms were so lovely I'd like to ask the owners where they got them from! The location was spectacular with amazing views from the cottage. Spacious inside with ample parking space out the front. It was good value for money, we would definitely stay there again and I would recommend Dunard to anyone.

It's not so much a case of what we didn't like and I am nitpicking. A masher in the kitchen would have been great and I think one or two of the cushions on the main sofa need changing. In the case of our stay, a fan would have been great as it was difficult to leave windows/doors open with the midgies. The owners do act on feedback from guests so I have no doubt these small things will be resolved.

Location was excellent, close to St. Ninians beach and island. Comfortable cottage, lovely large table in kitchen. Great oven, microwave, hob. Superb views from house. Sheep, birds entertaining us in field next door. Powerful shower. We appreciated collection of books.

Rooms with single beds were dusty. Towels were quite small. Not huge problem, didn't spoil our trip.
