Witzenberg Base Camp, to rejuvenate mind and soul

Wendy is the most amazing host and makes you feel very welcome! The location has stunning views of the mountains and the location is very quiet which makes for a peaceful getaway. It's a very short drive to town which we did for a dinner the one evening and felt very safe driving back in the dark. The outside bath is a beautiful touch and is a really unique and relaxing experience! The bed/bedding is also extremely comfortable which made for a really good nights sleep too.

Everything was perfect

I booked Witzenberg Base Camp for family members who were attending a function in Tulbagh. Wendy was incredibly accommodating and very responsive to messages. My niece and her partner stayed there and they were both very complimentary about the venue and Wendy's service too. They LOVED the farm setting, and waking up to the sound of cows was a very novel experience for the two city slickers. What made their experience even more magical, was that her partner proposed while they were there... and she said YES! Thank you so much, Wendy. I will certainly book Witzenberg Base Camp again.

Exceptionally beautiful and better than expected

This place is really wonderful. I really liked that the property owners contacted me well in advance to explain how to get to the place and the check-in procedure. The check-in procedure was so smooth. The owner, Gerben, was waiting for us when we arrived to give us keys and orientation of the accommodation and facilities. The cottage is the most perfectly rustic little space with nothing more than just what you need. It is called "Base Camp" because it is "basically camping." Great for anyone who enjoys being outdoors but would like something a little comfier than a ground mat in a tent! And the bedroom sure is comfy. There is also the indoors luxuries of electric lights, wifi, and running water. The cottage overlooks the farm's fields and rolling mountains in the distance. The cottage itself has lots of little thoughtful touches like a wonderful poem written by owner Wendy explaining that bugs are part of life, but that bug spray can be purchased! (And is provided anyway - because summer-time mosquitoes are well present.) The outdoor bath is the most beautiful experience. I have simply never had such a beautiful bath in my life - sipping a glass of bubbly and watching the stars roll through the sky while wallowing in a deep, warm bath. A peace that is very hard to find in busy city life. During the day there are many blue cranes that fly between the fields. And, aside from the dogs, horses, and blue cranes, we were left totally to ourselves to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate our souls.

It is a working farm with horses and sheep that get lead in and out every morning and evening right past the little cottage. I did not mind this at all, although it was a little bit of a surprise to discover. The dogs on the farm are also very friendly and the one in particular likes to be very involved in guest life. Me and my partner are animal lovers, though I can see how this would not be everyone's cup of tea (the very involved one is a little stubborn to commands - particularly English ones. Afrikaans worked a bit better!) A little additional shade protection on the grass off the porch, around the bath would also be lekker for sitting outside in the heat of the day. This is nit-picking though, the place was really, truly wonderful. We will both happily return.

A bit of a strange layout. Bathroom and kitchen disconnected from bedroom. Have to go outside. But still lovely. :):)
