The Imperial River House Resort, Chiang Rai

Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent.

I very much appreciated the free bicycles. The breakfast buffet was also quite good.

The location is quite awful. Although there is one tourist attraction next door, the hotel is far from anything and I felt stranded. There is no public transportation of any kind. It is not possible to do any walking. There are no sidewalks anywhere. It is not possible to use the roads, as motorbikes are occupying every bit of space on the roads. I did try to walk or bike, but became exhausted dodging the motorbikes, and gave up. The hotel charges five star rate, but apparently sees no need to offer any shuttle or transportation. The hotel is fine, but far from five star as advertised. It is quite aged, and might be between 3 and 4 stars. The benefit of being on the river is negligible - the water is more like a small creek. They also attempted to charge me for using the "house" drinking water- really couldn't understand that kind of penny pinching. The next time I am in Chiang Rai, I will make sure I am centrally located, and able to walk to points of interest, and not paying a five star rate for a three star property.

Relaxing hotel at the riverbank with spacious rooms and nice, big swimming pool

The interior and overall looks of the hotel are a little outdated

Big comfortable room with a large comfortable bed. Extremely clean. The resort grounds are very nice. The staff is very friendly. The pool is huge and has elephant statuary on the corners. What's not to love about that?

The location is out on the periphery of Chiang Rai. The good news is that Chiang Rai is not that big, so you can walk (long walk) to the core of the city. That said: there's not much to see in the actual core of the city. All of the important sights to see in Chiang Rai are even farther out on the periphery, with one notable exception: the Blue Temple. And that is a VERY short walk from the resort. Also, the breakfast was a bit simple and did not vary.

Fantastic location to relax in nature

The views all around are amazing. I could see the big Buddha out of my front door. And the pool and river out of the window. The pool is very nice. Always get the breakfast. Free bicycles to ride, which is a sort ride to the Blue Temple. 24-hour laundry mat within walking distance. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

The toilet was difficult. You had to flush several times. But being careful not to overflow it... The pool is a little difficult to get into if you have mobility issues.
