Charming One Bed Flat in Sagres

We didn't think we would be able to go to the 2024 Birdwatching Festival in Sagres--until suddenly we could, the day before! We were very grateful to find the Charming One Bedroom Flat still available, and living up to its name. It is located in the Don Tenório Aparthotel (Uber knows it, but not Google Maps?), on Rua do Norte, just SE of the Intermarché. The map pin in the Booking listing is correct, but the street names given when we made our reservation were not. It is a short walk from the Vamus Algarve #47 "Sagres-Bica" bus stop on the main road into town: cross the street, go N past the Intermarché, then past the Holi Diwaali restaurant (highly recommended) and turn right into the alley. Turn right at the corner, and walk about a block to the parking lot entrance. The apartment is on the 2nd floor ("3rd floor" for Americans), with 2 small elevators. We didn't use the pool, but it is very nice. We appreciated the terrace. The center of town, including the port and the Sagres cape with its fortress and lighthouse, is an easy 10-15-minute walk away. The hosts are super-responsive by Booking.com message. They communicated all the information we needed to access the building and the apartment a few hours before we arrived. Entry went very smoothly. Everything in the apartment was comfortable and clean. The kitchen has most things you'll need to self-cater (note: just a small wooden cutting board and no skillet, when we were there, and you'll need to buy all ingredients--no oil or other basics present, which is fine). As tea drinkers we appreciated the hot water kettle, but could have used more than 2 mugs. Note that the coffee pod machine is the proprietary Intermarché brand.

As happens in some Portuguese buildings in humid climates, there was a strong sulfurous smell coming from the drains, especially the kitchen sink. At the Intermarché we picked up baking soda for the kitchen sink drain, a countertop air freshner/odor neutralizer for the kitchen, and 3 little air freshening dehumidifier pods (preferring the mild lemon scent: one for the bathroom, one for under the kitchen sink, and one for the water heater cabinet next to the fridge, which also smelled strong). You could still smell it when washing dishes (reactivated by hot water?), but that mostly took care of it. Note that the bidet in the bathroom photos is no longer there. It has been replaced by a convenient wooden storage rack, which holds towels and a hair dryer. Sagres tap water is highly mineralized, and has the "slippery" feel of magnesium. Depending on your tastes, you may prefer bottled water for your visit. None of these posed problems for our stay, and do not detract from our review!

Prima appartement, schoon en comfortabel

Apartment worked well for us as a family of four. a little difficulty on arrival as the address wasn't correct but a phone call with the host sorted it out quickly. Keys easily accessible from description given. Well equipped for a few nights stay. Situated very close to the Intermarche for food and a 10 minute walk to restauarant/bars.

No batteries in the TV remote but wasn't a huge problem for us.
