East Lodge - Chillingham Castle

Very nice and very atmospheric castle gatehouse lodge. We visited when the weather was cold however it was nice and warm inside. Well equipped. Quite remote - you will need a car, but lots of interesting things to do only a short drive away.

Nothing was less than we expected.

What a fab place to stay. The location is unique and there are lots of home comforts and attention to detail. So nice to sit by the fire in the evening and enjoy the silence and the clear night skies. The castle is well worth a visit. Communication was superb prior to and throughout our visit.

The Lodge was beautiful and homely. Set in the grounds of Chillingham Castle. The Castle was very interesting and eclectic. It was also next door to the wild cattle park which was a fascinating insight into ancient wild cattle. Location easy reach to Northumbria stunning coastline

This place is very special. Perfectly adapted lodge. Great taste. Wonderful bedding! So comfortable and cosy. The grounds lovely. The castle hugely interesting

It was perfect

We have just returned from a magical 2 night stay at Chillingham East Lodge - it wasn't long enough!! Such a quirky, beautiful, comfortable,peaceful place to stay, and the setting is amazing. Next to an ancient church, at the edge of the castle grounds, with beautiful Northumbrian countryside at our doorstep. My husband and I were visiting from New Zealand with my UK sister and her husband. We enjoyed seeing bats, squirrels and herons, and listening to owls at nightime. We loved the castle and gardens and enjoyed a tasty lunch in the castle cafe in a beautiful medieval setting. Max, our host, couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. I definitely recommend this charming abode.

Quirky but very comfortable and cosy. Beautiful secluded location without feeling isolated. Perfect for children and dogs and a great spot to explore Northumberland from. Chillingham castle is fantastic to visit too. A real gem & we will definitely be back to visit again.

East Lodge is like stepping into a fairy tale. We loved the character of the property and the attention to detail. Max, the host, popped by to make sure we were comfortable. Chillingham Castle and the estate are atmospheric and full of history with an extremely interesting family. It is in a great location to explore Northumberland. I would say book a stay, but then that would make it difficult for us to book again! We can’t wait to return!
