I liked the setting of lanai. It is beautiful surrounding with tropical plants and frogs’ love song. The host Patrick is very helpful and provided useful information about road conditions and alternative visiting places when tropical storm hits

"Comfortable bed, but bring good earplugs!"

6.0

The bed was comfortable. The room had nice wall prints as a decoration. The price was better than most (for that area during the high travel season).

The location is about 30 minutes of highway driving from Hilo. The place needs to be cleaned more thoroughly and possibly some caulking applied to limit insects from coming in. There is a lot of tropical vegetation in the area which is nice but which means that there are insects as well as many, many LOUD coqui frogs. After arriving there, we realized that that whole area has many, many of them. The windows were not sound proof and the kitchen side had a door with a screen window on the side. The kitchen is open to nature (which is nice while having breakfast). I slept 4 hours the first night, even with earplugs (I always travel with earplugs). The second and third nights I slept better because I bought better quality earplugs as well as earmuffs from a hardware store. Also, the electrical seems a bit sketchy because the lights on one wall flickered when my husband took a shower (a possible sign of an overloaded circuit). I found out on the second day that the water in that area is catchment water and filtered and not provided by the municipality. I would have appreciated knowing that ahead of time. I would not say not to stay there...I know accomodation in Hawaii is expensive and we were glad to find something so last-minute, but I think travelers should be aware of these issues ahead of time.

"An awesome stay in the rainforest"

10.0

Patrick was an excellent host, and the cottage was fantastic for 1 or 2 people. I don't need a ton of space traveling alone, and this was just the right amount. Comfortable room, nice bathroom, excellent outdoor kitchen overlooking a tropical garden. The decor had great Hawaiian theming without being excessive or kitschy. I especially appreciated the selection of classic Hawaiian records to listen to. Combined with the sounds of the rainforest, the ambiance was amazing. A nice sampling of Hawaiian snacks and coffee is provided, and there is plenty of fridge space to store anything you buy. Maps and guides are located in the cottage, and Patrick provided some excellent suggestions for off the beaten path things to see and do. I loved the lizards, frogs, and birds in the garden. Not too far from restaurants and stores, including a couple of supermarkets and some farm stands. Hilo is less than half an hour away, with every amenity you may need. I've stayed in everything from basic tents to luxury resorts, but this is easily one of my favorite stays because of how immersed I was in the windward rainforest. And, given what lodging tends to cost in Hawaii, the value was amazing. It's the kind of place where I had to send photos to friends and family because of how stunning the ambiance was.

Very little not to like about this place, or at least nothing I wasn't prepared for. Traffic on Pāhoa-Kea'au Road can get heavy, so be prepared for traffic. Being on a gravel road is not an issue for me, but make sure the car you're renting isn't so sporty that you can't take it off of paved roads (most are allowed on maintained gravel at this point).

"Wonderful stay!"

10.0

The host of the property was just lovely! He gave us lots of good tips for places to see, was kind enough to provide us with warm jackets for stargazing at night, and shared a delicious dragon fruit from his farm. He has a chicken running around the property, and he shared some fun facts about the love frog, which to us sounded like a bird. The room itself was very cozy and comfortable and there was a nice touch with a vinyl record player and a few records with Hawaiian music.

A very nice place in the Hawaiian Paradise Park at a good price for Hawai'i! Our host was extremely kind and gave us great advice what we can visit in the surroundings. We loved the open air kitchen (with a roof) and the bathtub! A Hawaiian vinyl record was playing when we arrived that made a great atmosphere. From this location you can make nice day trips on the Eastern side of Big Island. I can recommend staying at this great place to everyone!

All great!
