"Great hiking location"

8.0

Perfect little house for hiking in the area. Great view from the terrace. Lovely garden with oranges. Very friendly and helpful host.

Living room and terrace could be cleaned better. However bedroom, toilet and so on was very clean (including the sheets and towels). Clean dish cloth and tea towel for the kitchen was missing. Wifi was only working for one person at a time for some reason.

"A very special and wonderful experience!"

10.0

We had a wonderful time in the charming and marvellous old finca (spanish farm stone cottage) which is located in the most beautiful area of the island Gran Canaria in the north-west close to the Valle de Agaete surrounded by green mountains called "los Andes Verdes" (green Andes). At each corner of the finca we had a marvellous view to the nature and mountains, especially from the terrace we enjoyed it so much. Our host Pablo and his father were very friendly and highly supportive and brought us wonderful fruit from their own plants which are growing all around the house so we had every day the best fresh breakfast directly from the garden, what a wonderful present! For check-in, Pablo picks you up from the closest parking (called "Parking público El Sao de Agaete") and brings you up to the finca in his 4x4 manual SUV as you can't reach the house with a rented SUV. He also brings you back to the parking at checkout. So make sure, before you go to the place to buy your food in advance before check-in in a local supermarket (eg. HiperDino in Gáldar) to assure the SUV transport to the house :) Otherwise you need to carry everything on your own 15min on an extremely steep path hiking all the way up ;) In the morning you will meet Pablos father and his dog Aria taking care of the plants and building the area all around the house. The dog was very friendly as well and is a typical Canarian race. (In case you are afraid of big dogs you should let Pablo know and he will leave him in a protected place) We highly enjoyed the house and area and did many different hikes all around and nearby (eg. to a restaurant in El Hornillo). We even hiked and walked from El Sao to Agaete and Puerto de las Nieves (11km one way) through the marvellous mountains and valley of Agaete. In Puerto de las Nieves you can have delicious waffles and icecream at the supermarket SPAR in the centre (hint: try the Turrón ice cream there!

If you need to carry heavy stuff like luggage and food you need to assure the 4x4 SUV transportation by Pablo either at check-in or you make an appointment with him so that you don't have to carry all the heavy things by hiking 15-30min a very steep mountain. You need to consider that you need to hike a lot every day (unless you stay the whole day in the house^^) and will train a lot if you want it or not. For us it was great and we enjoyed the daily walk and hike but with heavy stuff on your back it is no fun even if you are very fit. ;) So make sure to really enjoy the daily hike without heavy stuff on your back. If you get late to the house you will need a torch as there are no street lanterns up there ;) The finca has two separated places. We had the smaller place below with one very comfortable french king-size bed on 1st floor and a sleeping sofa on ground floor. You don't have the whole house on your own (this is what we originally thought) and can hear other guests especially on the 1st floor where the sleeping dorm and bathroom is. At the moment (February 2024) there is a locked wooden door between the two separated areas and can look through a little to the neighbor (guests) place. Pablo wants to fix this issue and plans to build a wall between. As it is an old house, there is no real isolation at doors and windows so ants like to come for a visit in the bathroom or kitchen. They didn't bother us too much as they were very small, but it can happen that they want to say hello at some time :) In the bathroom, the showerhead has a very low pressure and less water comes out. The other waterfall shower didn't really work well because of lime. If you are sleeping on the sofa at the ground floor (next to the kitchen and main entrance), you need to lock the main entrance door, as the strong wind can make it move.

"Super!"

10.0

Lovely remote location, very kind and helpful host (Pablo), late check-out, fresh oranges to pick, incredible scenery, super accomodation and facilities. I thought I was ready with Gran Canaria after 3 visits, but now I wanna come back, for sure...

"Großartig!"

10.0
